anybody have an idea of what kind of roof rack is on that 105? that looks really good

you guys would cry if you came to Oz:crybaby:... the 105 is everywhere...you can pick the older ones up realy cheap ,or pick up the brand new 105 4.2GXL for $62000.00.... In Oz, the 105 pictured is used on all the mines, army and is available to the public as a base Land cruiser, vynal interior, split rims and white in colour..
sounds like you guys have to go throgh a lot to import the 105 over... the 100 is undoubtedly a much nicer car to drive.... but for offroading we all love to see the best wheel articulation on the track, for the performance and the visual aspect... cool truck tho...:D

cheers fishy...

very cool, not at all suprised to see Blackwater has these in the states, they can get whatever they want. the Con is along way from NC......but wonder if the terain is similar to Afganistan mountains....

good show on National Geographic last night about contractors in Iraq, showed a 100 up close that had been hit with a EID(not IED) pretty amazing.

wish I could run those plates.....but a black helo would prolly follow me around afterwards ;)

That is interesting. It even has NC plates which means that it is probably not temporary. I am sending them email and ask about these trucks and how are they in NC?

They probably ordered them through Gibraltor however how in the world did they get the NC plates?

That is sweet.

Tried that:

Hello,

I saw a truck on the road the other day that I know they don't import into the USA. It was a Toyota landcruiser Diesel 105, plate number VPB-369. Are these vehicles now leagel to import and register in the USA? By the way I saw this truck in CA but it had a NC plate number.

Chris

Hello

The license plate provided is not a North Carolina license plate number.

Thank you
Tasha

More interesting, they can get REAL diesel Land Cruisers with fake plates. I am only in Raleigh and the black helo could be here in less than an hour.

Looks like we are all S.O.L.

Hi Debbie,

I just stumbled across the website www.toyota-gib.com then ran a google search and your name came up as a U.S. dealer. Are you able to import some of these vehicles, for example the 105 series or 70 series landcruiser. If so can the public buy them and register them for road use? Any info you have will be greatly appreciated.

Chris

Hello Chirs,

Thank you for contacting TGS/TGSUSA. In case you are not already aware, Toyota Gibraltar Stockholdings Ltd. was set up by Toyota Motor Corporation in 1996 as a stock operation for the United Nations and International Humanitarian Organisations. It is a unique and special operation, strictly controlled by our head office in Japan to ensure that it is only used by eligible organisations. Officially it is not available to indigenous NGOs, unless the vehicle funds are coming from the UN or an international GO / NGO. Also, our vehicles do not meet US regulations and can not be imported here.

We therefore request you to confirm whether a vehicle purchased by you or your organisation would be consigned to a humanitarian organisation or a development project. If not, then we may not be in a position to assist you further.

Regards,

Debbie

I received an identical email from them two years ago :frown:

But seeing this 105 has given me some new hope. I don't know much about importing new vehicles, but I think the major hurdle is getting the first one legally imported.

Current North Carolina plates are all three letters and 4 numbers; the fourth digit is hidden by the rear tire carrier. But there can only be 10 possibilities ... looks like a little license plate sudoku is in order.

I can hear them now.......the black SUV's will be showing at the same time......time to duck into the basement :D

So a 105 is an 80 frame 100 body?

I'm all for the desiel , 5spd, lockers.. any other advantage to it?

That's a simplistic way of thinking about it (100 on 80), but for the lazy it'll do for our purposes.

Biggest advantage (besides two cross-axle lockers): solid front axle.
