We have a handful of years left until a diesel 100 Series can be imported into the U.S., but:

What do you guys think a diesel 100 Series would be worth in the U.S. today?

I can't really have this discussion with my wife;)

What are they configured with?

e-lockers? A-TRAC? VSC? Any manual trans options? Part-time t-case w/ lockouts? Rear climate control?

Very interesting...

Let's say Solid Front Diff - lockers front and rear, 5 speed manual, rear climate control, part time t-case w/lockout - Basically, the 100 Series we are accustomed to (fully loaded with Leather), but with all the cool stuff we don't get.

Un obtanium for me starts somewhere between 40-50 k. Don't know what low mileage ones go for in Australia though.

A-TRAC and/or VSC?

Hopefully less than most Defenders will be going for now... But let's keep that our secret. I'd even take the petrol V8 with a manual!

99% of landcruisers in the UK are diesels, they have everything that the petrol has but any new technology takes abit longer to be fitted. The engine does sound good, 4.2 diesel v8 with lots of torque. We dont have the lx, we have a gx and vx, both look the same as the landcruiser but the gx is manual with standard suspension and the vx has all the comforts of the lx.

Well, my hand doesn't have 7 fingers :) Impossible to say, you are trying to put a value on something that can't be brought into the US until 2023. Who knows what the world/US economy will be then, maybe Mr T brings in a diesel to the US (highly unlikely), there are too many variables for something that is 7 years out.

It's widely known that because the US has such a long wait time to import compared to other countries (25 years), the ones that do make it here are used and abused and passed over many times already. Look at the Aussies ones here, other countries, ie Canada, got the good ones at 15 years old.

The closest comp would be the 90-91 HDJ81's that are coming in at around $20k for lower mileage examples. Adjust for higher auction prices of the 7 year newer 100 series and you'll have your current, fictitious estimated market value price.

Well this was disappointing read. I'm having baby #3 and need to sell my 2001 4runner for a bigger vehicle. My wife wants a Minvan, but I was hoping for a diesel TLC(roughly the same MPG). Does anyone know why these import laws on diesels are put in place?

Because the gas mileage/fuel tax ratio for diesel doesn't fit the model needed for the movement tax in the states. Petrol does. Have you ever wondered why you can import a US car to Europe but not the other way around?

Further reading. (no comment on the website)

If you could have a 100 Series diesel (Today), what would you pay? What specs would you want/require?

My wife had a LX470 and we loved that thing. The ONLY complaint was the fuel mileage. I'd prefer one with SA instead of IFS, but for what we used the LX for, the IFS was more than fine. We weren't jacking it up or anything crazy. Just a stock LX with removed AHC for family cruising.

To the post above the 4.2 diesel engine is a straight 6, the V8 is 4.6. usually petrol, although a 4.6 litre diesel is available but I don't think it made it into a 100 (in the UK....Australia possibly). The UK diesels essentially are in 2 version pre-2003 and post 2003. Post 2003 comes with a really nice 5-sp auto box (almost all are autos) the latest version of the 1HD-FTE engine has 202HP, 317 lb/ft of torque and peak starts just above tickover (1400RPM). The later 2000 onwards has the 4 pinion front diff which removes the 2 pinion differential weak point. Usually fitted with centre and rear lockers, height/levelling system (usually removed), EGR (often removed), traction control, leather (or cloth seats), lots of goodies.... The straight 6 engine is very smooth, pulls like a train, makes a great tow-car. Fully loaded @ 3500Kg with RTT/rack etc I get 20mpg @ 70mph (British gallons BTW)
