I am playign golf with a guy on Monday morning that runs a tire shop here in Atlanta. His shop does about $500k or so a year with Southern Company's fleet. My dad is a 40yr. Southern Company veteren in the fleet department. Long story short is that my dad has been getting tires for his personal cars from him for years....at a very good price. I plan to talk to him about a group discount for the GA and UC cruiser groups. I plan to ask about the brands he has access to. Right now, I am thinking: BFG, TOYO, MAXXIS, Bridgestone, Swampers (I hope he can get them, we will see), and Good Year. Anyone else have a flavor that they want me to ask about?

Scott,
Buckshot is a brand that had tall skinny aggressive tires when I bought my Swampers. Would you add them to your list? Thanks

I am looking for 5 tires. Either Maxis bighorn M/T or the newer BF goodrich MT/KM2s in a 255/85 r16.

Smitty, Excellent work. Think he would be interested in sponsoring the club? We could perhaps throw a link to his website from ours in exchange for a standing discount for Ga cruiser members. and perhaps a raffle dontation or 2 during the year

I need some Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo Tires for the Duramax!!!

I am in the market for 5 tires as well. Hope this works out.

Thanks,

Mike

Smitty,

Any chance of this comming through before the next trail ride?

Thanks,

Mike

Prices ended up being embarassingly high. So high that I will not even publish them. I am working on another source right now. Not vey optimistic though. I will let you know.

Here is the first wave that I got from the second source. This shop is in Alpharetta so it is probabbly pretty close for most. If we end up getting a few sets sold, I think I can talk them into some sort of sponsorship. These prices were actually lower than the first source. All prices include mounting, balancing, and valve stems. This shop says that they can get any tire. If you want a different tire or size, let me know what and how many you want and I will get you a quote. I will probably be going the trxus MT route late rin the year.

BFG All Terrain KO LT285/70R17D BW = $250 installed
BFG All Terrain KO LT265/75R16D BW = $215 installed
Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo LT285/75R16 = $215 installed
BFG Mud Terr KM2 LT 305/70R16 = $290 installed
Interco Trxus MT LT285/75R16 = $200 installed

Scott,
Thanks. You did not specify, but these are prices per tire. Correct?

Larry,

Unless it's 1955 I would assume per tire.

Kevin,
Excellant point which was obvious once I hit the send button. i.e., open mouth and insert foot in the electronic age

However, I did find the prices rather shocking. I put new 33" BFG A/T under Carolyn's 80 a while back and they were about $140 per tire (mounted and balanced). Since I am in Texas, I can't walk out to the shop to confirm the size, but the apparent cost delta to step up to a 35" tire appears to be far from trvial.

After you pass teh 33" threshold things get expensive. Most 35's are $200 plus. It is a supply and demand thing as 99% of the population would never consider a tire over 33".

What is going on in Texas?

I'm considering a set of Maxxis Bighorns in 255/85r16. My 315/75r16 Mickey Thompson's will be up for sale. They are at 18/32's and perfect.

All five for $900. They are too big for my inline 5 so I need to step down.

Just work; a series of meetings that I have to attend.

Lucky for me that I am a wimpy boy that runs small tires. My Swampers are only 34" so they are under the knee in this cost curve too.

I am 99% sure that 4 315/75R16 BFG All Terrains were less than $1000 installed at Costco on my 80. This was about a year ago, so prices could have inflated.

Regardless, if you want BFG's or Michelins (that's all they carry) I would check out Costco.

Again, thanks for the legwork, Smitty.
