I have a 1989 JDM BJ74 (24v). My blower motor started making a ticking noise yesterday traveling through Arizona with the A/C cranked. Today it quit working after stopping for fuel. I tried an hour later and it worked again and was quiet.

I'm currently in southern Utah and have several more days of traveling before heading back to Canada. I would appreciate any help as or suggestions to keep the A/C going. Including any information on parts inter changeability with north American LC's

Today it quit working after stopping for fuel. I tried an hour later and it worked again and was quiet.

I do not know if this can help ...

I have already experienced this same kind of problem (stop, then work the next day or later)

Look at the blower motor breaker in the driver kick panel. You can do a reset by using a needle.

I no longer use the fastest speed on my BJ70 since several years because it blew my breaker afther 15 or 25 minutes of hard work.... Never had a problem with the other speeds.

This could be the first way to follow ... HTH

If you can can nail down what part you need I can ship replacement to you in the US pretty quickly.
Sounds like a blower motor. If the resistor goes you will lose the all but the high speed setting.

Ticking noise might be a leaf or some debris in the motor housing - easy to remove the motor and have a look.

Resistors are in stock.

Motors can be re-brushed easily enough.

If you need a part shipped in, try using Kurt from Cruiser Outfitters as a ship to location.

Proffits Cruisers has a location in Tooele Utah. (Tooele is west and south of Salt Lake City.) They work on 70 series and build them. They may have the part you need to get you going.

Hi BJ 71......if you see this drop me an email..."78toyota@gmail.com"

easy to remove the motor and have a look.

keep in mind that screw is not a Phillips screw head. It is a kind of ''star'' screw. I have lost a couple of minutes before I realize that the first time I take it appart. :o

Thanks for all the helpful responses but thanks to a poor cell phone provider my Internet access has been very limited.

Turns out it's the blower motor. Ticking turned to squealing but still intermittent. When it does quit I have been able to get it to get going again with a tap or two on the blower housing. So I assume that means the brushes are sticking.

Checked with cruiser outfitters on my way through salt lake yesterday but they didnt have one in stock. I should make it home by tonight or tmrw so hopefully it will hang in a little longer......
