I let my 87 60 sit for nearly two years. But I've since had my head rebuilt and the carb was rebuilt by Jim C. I also had both manifolds flattened. As I reassembled, I also desmogged completely. As far as I know I'm just down to a basic 6 cyl engine. But the problem is she's running rough and there's very little throttle response. I don't remember taking out the distributor but since I started the work months ago, I can't remember. I mention this b/c I think the timing may be off. The only other thing I can think of is there may be a vacuum leak or disconnected hose somewhere--but I've looked pretty thoroughly and can't find one.

Could the thorough desmog be the actual problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

How did you hook up the carb after you desmogged? I'm not sure what the procedure is when you do this, but the stock carb is set up configured to run as if all of the smog stuff is in play. Is your fuel cutoff solenoid still plugged in? It monkeys with your fuel mixture based on vacuum based on your air injection system. I hear a lot of better mechanics mention this when it comes to rough running - especially with the poor throttle response.

I wish that I could be of more help. I would check that out first, look for vac leaks (have you hooked a vac gauge up to your manifold yet to see what kind of Hg you're running?) - did you get your EGR unhooked and blocked off properly? That's always another culprit with the rough running...

did you keep your smog parts when you desmogged it? i have purchased an 85 fj60 that was desmogged and the PO did not keep the parts. i now need to "resmog" mine for emissions testing.

if you have the parts, and they are in working order, and you are not planning on resmogging, then drop me an email.

Yes, Jim C DID rebuild the carb knowing I planned to desmog. He even plugged the vacuum lines I didn't need before sending it back.

One more question: What kind if timing light do I need? I looked at Auto Zone and they have four or five different ones.

Thanks!
