Hey guys. It's time to replace my starter again.
Before I get burnt, I did search and read a lot.

To make a long story short, on christmas eve 2018 I had to replace my starter in a rush and only thing I could find on time was autozone own brand.
12 months later it started to fail randomly, 2 days ago (17 months after purchase) it gave up completely.
Although that starter had lifetime warranty and I can get new one for free, I don't want to go that route again.
I rather pay $100 and get a denso reman. My question is if someone had any experience with rockauto Denso reman? Are all denso reman coming from the same place? Or any shop can buy a denso core, remanufacture and sell it as denso reman?
Everyone that has done this job knows that is a major pita, so I don't want to do it again and again.
Also, would you replace the gaskets again being less the 1.5 years old?

BTW, did anybody found a better, easier way to do it other than climbing on the engine bay? I'm 6'3" and 295lbs.

Thanks everyone in advance.

Can't you get an OEM used starter from a yard and add new OEM contacts?

I found a great place in NY selling USED oem LC and LX parts for cheap.

I just replaced mine and used Toyota reman. Don't know if it was Denso or who made it, but the original Toy one went 230k miles, so that's what went back in. It was only $120 or so. Just think it's one of those jobs that are labor intensive enough it's not worth looking for a deal on the part.

Where did you buy it at that price? For $97 a reman denso and $120 for an original toyota, that's a no brainer.

Local dealer. Looking online they're available plenty of places for around that. Realize there's a core charge on top of that, maybe $70 more.

Thanks
Found the lexus equivalent at $129 +$60 core, however is a different part number.

Edit: never mind, just realized that was for a 03 and above. Mines is a 99 so it's even cheaper $107.

I don't know about the starters but If it's anything like the alternators you have to be careful. There is a difference between a remanufactured Denso and remanufactured "by Denso". A Denso unit could be remanufactured by any joe blow. You want the one remanufactured directly by Denso. Its all in the wording. Safest bet is to buy directly from the Denso website.

If you didn’t toss your original OEM starter when you installed the Autozone junker, I have an OEM rebuild kit: For Sale - 98-00 UZJ100 OEM/Denso Starter Rebuild Kit: AZ

I would not replace the intake manifold gaskets since they’ve only been on for 1.5 years. They should be fine.

Update: Toyota Reman starter is on its way. Bought it at McGeorge for $107 +$60 core.
Hopefully it will make it here before friday so I have a project to work on the weekend.

I bought a Denso remanufactured starter from RockAuto for my 99 LX470, DOA. I thought I had either misdiagnosed my issue or screwed something up so I had it towed to the dealer. Starter was completely dead, they couldn't get it to function at all even outside the vehicle.

I would go OEM every time on such a critical part.

After a week of having the truck parked in my driveway, with the battery disconnected I tried again and started right up, no hesitation, nada.
The starter cranked like a champ.
The new one arrives tomorrow.
What I have noticed for quite some time is that every time I had cranking issues, the day was either rainy or very humid, but always started after a few attempts. This last time the started was dead for 3 or 4 days, I even left the hood open for several hours thinking on the humidity thing.
Today is a lovely sunny day.
Has anybody heard of starter issues because of humidity? @2001LC do you have any insights?
I checked the started relay connections and looked great. I do hear the relay clicking every time, just no crank...

Just got the new starter.
