Please forgive me for my first post being a for sale post. I have been a rover guy for a long time and have been all over those forums. Been lurking here for a while now, and I am considering a land cruiser for our new family travel vehicle. As a family we travel to the mountains a good bit, and we love to camp. I am trying to get into something a little more family friendly, but at the same time what it to be very capable off road.

For sale is a 1994 Defender 90. The truck has 115,000 miles. I have had it about 2 years, and am moving on to something bigger. I have done lots of upgrades and maintenance. The truck is set up for overland travel, being that it is very off road capable, but you can also drive it 75 mph down the highway. It has a 3.9 V8 motor and the LT77 transmission (shifts perfect in all gears). Also has CDL.

Upgrades:
-RTE +2' springs
-RTE rear links
-Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks (12' travel)
-EE spring retainers
-Spring isolaters
-GBR 4.14 gears front and rear thrust bolted
-ARB air lockers front and rear
-ARB air compressor
-Rovertracks rear HD axle shafts
-HD drive flanges in rear
-Rockware front buper
-Rockware diff guards front and rear
-Rockware rear shock mounts
-Custom built rear bumper with swing out tire carrier, 2 gerry cans, and hi-lift jack
-Custom build rock sliders (attach in 3 locations = no give at all)
-Warn M8000 winch
-Badger Coachworks badger II top
-5 BFG KM2 255/85/16
-5 Gulf Coast Rovers steel wheels
-HD sleeved panhard rod and track rod
-Tuffy center console with CD/mp3/ipod
-JL audio speakers

Maintenance done recently:
-new slave cylinder on clutch
-replaced, packed, and sealed all wheel bearings
-installed 100amp alternator
-installed new steering gearbox to eliminate a leak
-moved rear seat forward to allow for more storage room in the rear
-transmission flushed

I'm sure I'm forgetting some things. This is a great truck. I am now in a position to need a bigger vehicle to fit my family and all of our camping gear in. This will make someone a great rig. PM any questions.

$26,000 for the truck

Will consider trade plus cash for a 1997 80 or a LX 450 with factory lockers.

I have a bunch more pictures if anyone is interested. The attachment manager is telling me I have exceeded my quota. I can email them upon request.

Nice rig by the way, good luck!

I've owned Range Rover Classics, Discovery's and have spent time behind the wheel of an old Series III. Never again will I drive an "Empire" automobile unless it was something like this. You did a great job equipping it with excellent components.

You are going to love the Land Cruiser world. Far more comfortable and reliable.

ive always wondered how these compare to the 40? other than being twice the price................is this the one Landrover that is unlike the somewhat "notorious" others?

Having owned a number of Land Rovers ( old Series vehicles as well as a '95 Defender ), I developed a theory: The Brits do "simple" very well and are not worth a damn at "complicated." The Rovers that did not have fancy electronics ( Series and Defenders) were fairly reliable
and the others ( Discoveries, Range Rovers etc) had a tendency to be very unreliable. The only fault with the D-90 ( other than horrible fuel economy ) was the fact that they seem to eat clutch master cylinders for some reason.
my .02 worth......

I'm gonna take some fire for this, but from having owned a 40 and currently owning a D-90, I can tell you that in a stock-to-stock comparison, the D-90 does everything better than a 40. The 90 has more power, stops better, and being coil-sprung (even with a short wheelbase), you'd be shocked at how good they ride, both on and off road. I've owned my 90 since 2007 and so far (sound of knocking on wood), it's been virtually problem-free. I've also ridden 1,300 miles one-way to the mountains of Colorado in a friend's, wheeled it in the mountains, and returned without a hiccup.....and the same guys I went with have done that multiple times. Again, mine could break in half tomorrow, but up to now, I love it (all that being said, even though it's never given me any trouble, I don't rely on it like I do my cruisers - there's always that little uncertain voice in the back of the head of a Rover owner :) )

I agree with you 100%. There's significantly less to go wrong with a D90 than with the other Rovers. As for fuel economy, that issue is made worse by the fact that it's got like a 3.2 gallon fuel tank! (not seriously, but it's too small)...........and I had to laugh at your last comment, because my clutch master cylinder is currently leaking like a mad man!

Back to the OP's post: that's a REALLY good price for a D-90 that well-equipped! GLWS!

You should not exaggerate.....you know it holds at least 4.0 gallons which under good conditions will allow you to go approximately 40 miles ( again under good conditions):)
As far as the 40 / 90 comparison goes that is really a apple / oranges argument.

Why would you even compare a D90 to a 40-series? Completely different trucks in all ways....

This is after all a "Toyota" forum so everything is compared to a Land Cruiser.:D

Yep, I agree. LC vs LR is apples vs. oranges. I was just responding to the quoted post........... I started off by saying I was prepared to take some heat :)

The Defender is pretty much a novelty (it's clunky and crude and somewhat uncommon, but I also don't think I'd ever sell it). On the other hand, I know I can always count on the Land Cruisers' dependable characteristics and rock-solid reliability........like women, the D90 is the unpredictable girlfriend: she's quirky, and fun, and you stay with her because she has your curiosity, but you wouldn't likely marry her. Likewise, the Land Cruiser is the woman you marry because she's beautiful and you know she'll be there, come what may. (Unlike women, however, it's generally acceptable to be "in a relationship" with both a LC and and a LR!)

No heat intended however if you are going to make comparisons between Land Rovers and Land Cruisers it would be more accurate to compare the Rover to a long wheel base 70 Series or 80 Series. ( not the 40 Series ):)
Good luck with the sell........1978HJ45 ( 1995 D-90 SW 394/500....sold )

I was just responding to bugsnbikes comparison question above. That being said, since the FJ40 and Defender 90 share 90" wheelbases, they actually seem to be the closest models to compare.
