Any Must See places if you are going to spend a day in Death Valley?

Heading through Panamint Valley and Trona on the way home.

Dan-I love that place. In a day, you can't scratch the surface.

I would go to the visitor center in Furnace Creek and get an introduction. Death Valley is huge, with very long distances between points of interest. Maybe drive Titus Canyon if you can only do 1 thing.

good call, Drew

I stayed at Furnace Creek Ranch. I drove there in the dark, conducted training during the daylight hours. I left there this morning and headed back home.

I saw a few things from the road. At 3.3million acres, kinda hard to see everything unless you live there for a few years, kinda like Moab.

you could spend the rest of your life out there and not see the same thing twice

So you drove by Stovepipe Wells. Marble Canyon across the street is cool and you might have cut over Wild Rose canyon to the Trona Road. I'll use this as an excuse to post some pictures of that area. :hillbilly:

This is the Oasis in Wild rose Canyon

The road to the Coke Ovens might have been clear of snow

I don't think the road to Mahogany Flat overlooking Bad Water would have been open with the storms we have had. This is a few miles past the ovens and a lot higher in elevation.

I really wanted to see the Coke ovens.

The road clearly stated that 4x4 vehicles recommended. My company issued 2wd F 150 was not up to the task.
Unless there was snow up the canyon you could drive a Civic to the coke ovens. I don't fault you for erring on the side of caution though, that's kind of my mantra.

Unless you're following me or Jack :flipoff2:

I worked with a guy who was born and raised in Trona CA. His dad worked in the Borax mine. Check out the Trona web site, my friend, Dave Stevens is the webmaster.

It takes a special kind of person to live in that area because it is so mind numbing hot, remote and dusty.

I have been in DV in the Summer and the heat literally takes your breath away.

A guy who looked like CruiserDrew was driving and he was bundled up like the heater was not working in his rig. I did not get a good look at the passenger.

Wern't me but I wish it was. I think I've seen a Tan 60 down there a couple of times, and bet its's local. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's a Tan 60 in good condition that has a "Jeep" emblem on the rear hatch. Sacriledge, if you ask me. The guy that owns it is not real talkative.

Last time I saw him was in Ballarat 2 years ago.

That was the devil's cornfield, he doesn't do haystacks haha. Mosaic Canyon is right by Stovepipe Wells. A little hinking has you in a narrow canyon situation, plus Stovepipe is thecheapest gas in the Valley, out of 2 places total. Aguerrebury Point is good, and 2wd accessible.

Not to mention the stench.
