I picked up a used 2015 with ~94K miles on it back in Feb. Toyota web site shows faithful maintenance at a couple dealers in NW AR. I have not driven the LC a lot as I have a Tacoma for the daily stuff, maybe 1500 miles since I got her. Next week we are driving to CO so I’m checking her out as she still is kinda new to me and I’ve only done fun stuff. I do all my own maintenance, my dad was a mechanic and ran his own shop, I grew up with a wrench in my hand and quite frankly do not trust anyone else wrenching on my stuff. But with solid maintenance history I’ve kinda just been keeping my hands clean on this thing. So tonight I crawled under her to just check for obvious issues.

I would think that in 94K miles at some point a grease gun would have been used. Really it’s not that difficult. You judge for yourself.

Maybe they been hit a couple times (can you still make out the paint on the ball?) or the lube tech is really good at cleaning up excess grease, but those look somewhat untouched to me. None coming out around the caps either and no sling around any of the joints.

For those not that familiar with the underside of your LC those are the grease fittings on the rear driveshaft universal joints. They should be greases every service, and it’s kinda messy if you do it right.

I guess before the drive I better check it all out and make sure the diffs and transfer case have nice gear oil in them. I guess modern cars are so good they don’t even need routine maintenance done properly.

If you rely on a dealer to do your maintenance, you may want to check on them occasionally!

I know I should have checked the day I brought her home. Too bad they didn’t ignore the cabin air filter, I’d have a functioning blend door!

Not surprising. Pathetic, actually.

I glued the blend door on my LX after the dealer broke it. Used plastic epoxy and it’s been working perfectly since.

Dealers are not what they used to be. I find either do it yourself or find a local independent certified mechanic to build a relationship with both you and your vehicle. At a dealership they are only concerned with turning the car out with minimal out of pocket expense and maximizing profits. Most people don’t keep their vehicles long enough for them to realize they are being taken advantage of and assume quick service is the sign of quality service. Avoid any shop with a “Quick Change” or “Fast Lane”

not surprised at all. Lexus dealers miss this also - I specifically asked for it to be done and it was missed. When dealerships attract and pay folks the same wage as flipping burgers you get what you pay for.

It’s not only s***ty techs but Lexus’s target demographic isn’t climbing under cars, they cut checks and keep it pushing. And likely buying/leasing a new car every 4-5 years. So if I was a dealer why would I bother with ****ing zerks 90% of owners didn’t even know exist? Just sayin

My cruiser was the exact same at 105k. 170 now and no issues with the front shaft.

And what @04UZJ100 said. Wait til you realize they broke your recirc flap. They is why I tell every new owner to lock their glove box and keep the key blade with them any time it is in for service. New rigs have stickers to prevent the problem and techs barge right past that and break s***. The only way to prevent it is to not let them in there.

In this day and age, "dealer maintained" is practically a red flag for me.

I always have to wonder how many bolts are stripped, was a torque wrench ever used, was the oil filter element actually changed, the list goes on.

I purchased a 2011 with 130k on it. Intensive dealership maintenance records when purchased…my zerks had never been touched in all those years. It was pretty disappointing. I was having alignment issues a few months back ( took 4 tries, even when supplying desired specs). The whole process really showed how useless dealerships are and even the majority of Toyota techs have 0 experience working on 200s. It’s incredibly frustrating.

Oh yeah my blend door is broken, filter has been changed 3 times.
