Every year a group of old friends and I get together on the weekend before the Super Bowl and find a spot in the desert. The first 6 years it took place at Peg Leg outside of Borrego Springs. And for the last 4 years it has been in a less desirable place, in my opinion, Ocotillo. But since half of them switched to Rhinos and bought ATV's for the kids we were no longer able to stay in Borrego since all vehicles must be street legal in the National Park.
So this year the :princess: and myself decided just to go out for the day on Saturday rather than for the whole weekend. And we ended up on a full day trail ride in and around Painted Gorge Trail. It was beautiful and our favorite trail ride in the area in 4 years. Hope you enjoy a few pics: LINK

very nice. I'll be out there this coming weekend...

Where's the painted gorge trail? haven't been on it.

answered my own questions on where it is - I know it as carrizo mtn trail

Yeah, it's off of Painted Gorge Rd. And I didn't have my map with me to get the trail name.

Most of the trails hit locked gates for the Big Horn sheep mating but we found one trail open so we took it.

Nice Mark.

I was at the same place the day after X-Mas with some family. I ended up exploring on my own up some of the river beds and canyons since I didn't feel like having my shins and knees beat up by the sand rail.

Yeah, what I don't like about out in Ocotillo is all the whooped out trails. No fun in the Cruisers but a blast in Rhinos, Quads, & Dirt bikes.
You have to head into the National Park area for the good trails like Diablo Drop Off.

*UPDATE*

Here is some video from the trip. From 1 minute in to 2 minutes you see me navigate a tricky little washout on a road. VIDEO

The pyrotechnics the next day that I was not apart of were unsuccessful this year. Normally these Fire Sprinkler guys do a better job playing with fire...
