Dash Brake Light

Thanks, Coolerman. Good info in this thread. I am in the process of getting a 74 pig on the road, and just rebuilt the master cylinder. The pressure switch wires have been cut off at the wiring harness.

On my 69 FJ40, with it's single reservoir, there is no pressure switch, so this is all new to me.

My truck has a non usa fzj80 master cylinder, so I just cut these wires and wrapped them. I was having problems with the light and this weekend I found a new bulb at the parts store, turned out my problem was a ground, fixed that and now it works as it should to warn me of the fact that I have my ebrake on and that's it.

Hey dudes, i was searching.. and found this thread...

my red warning dash light comes on (1975 fj40) when i either use the E-brake, or push on the brake pedal..

It does NEITHER one consistently..

and here's the kicker..

my MC has been changed to a 1991 non abs setup.. so my two wires that NORMALLY go to the bottom of the MC, are just dangle there, not attached to anything.

How in the hell is my brake pedal causing the dash warning light to pop on?

Other question.. i unbolted my ebrake, and pushed the switch on/off about 20 times... and the red warning light never came on!! wtf? what should i do at this point? replace the switch? But even doing that... why is my brake PEDAL causing the light to go on, if the wires are disconnected from the MC?

Curiously; I have a '76 HJ45 with a "red" light on the dash that says "Brake". I have never seen it light up. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? From this thread, I suspect that "if" my brake fluid were low, the light would come on (right?). So, how to I check to see if it is still working (as it should; protecting "something")???
Cheers!!!

Eddie
