I checked the diff oil (Amsoil) and its dark and foamy.
The knuckles are not leaking and the breather is not plugged (its extended and has filter on end).
I replaced the Newfields not long ago.
I used Amsoil moly grease in the knuckle. THe oil looked goog when I pulled the axles.
Could the grease somehow get in the diff without it leaking out?
I might of knocked the spring off from the inneraxle seal???

What is the part # of the inneraxle seals?

Kurt -

Can't believe the grease got into the diff without the opposite happening. Is it possible that the Amsoil simply "cleaned up" some crud that was present in the diff when you did the drain and refil?

Can't explain the foamy part though...that sounds like water from somewhere...

I filled the diff sometime last year. When I pulled the axles out the oil was clean.

I guess the inner axle seal is just called the axle seal, right?
I need the part # so I can dig in my parts bin and see if I have one.

Kurt,

Those seals are called "SEAL, TYPE S039" according to my invoice from Dan. The part number is 90310-35010. Unfortunately, as I recall, everything that was a seal, was simply labeled as "SEAL" in the padkages...you gotta go with the part number.

Good luck--hope you have some in your goodie bag.

I used my last seals when I installed the new newer newfields.
I still need to install the seal behind spindle (that I forgot to install) so I am hopping that its that seal that is letting in the grease.

I drained & filled, drained & filled and drove a couple day and the oil is clearing up. One more drain and all should be ok. I hope.

I think that some grease must of gotten pushed in past the axle seal when I put in the axle. THere is no leaking oil at the knuckle.

Now all I have to do is replace the seal I forgot to install and pack the new wheel bearing.
