Damn another head gasket

Ya know guys, just because someone owns a Land Cruiser does not mean that they can tear the top end of the motor down. Sure, many of us have that skill set and have no problem doing a head gasket job and all the related items that go with it, but not everyone has that skill set nor the confidence to try it. Looking under that hood when you dont know what you are looking at can be pretty daunting.

Give the guy a break, if he feels better taking it to Darin to have the job done, so be it.

I agree. I'm great with taking things apart. Putting them back together is the prob. Give the guy a break.

I agree with you guys, but pushing yourself is the only way to grow. That AND the fact that he and his step father did the HG the first time, one would assume that it can be done again!!

John, I hope I didn't come across as a dick earlier in my post. If I was around this weekend I'd come up to help. Based on our discussions at the meeting last night, it sounds like you're well on your way to having this thing torn down and you've already lined up a machine shop. Get the gaskets kit and the head back from the machine shop and then one of us should be free to help you put it together.

I agree.

And I also apologize if I was pushing you too hard. However, I think that taking on more than you think you can handle is how we learn new skills, abilities, confidence, etc. We are just trying to help!

PM me for my cell. Call me if you get stuck with something or need some help. I've got my hands full right now but I can help you over the phone or by text.

I didn't think you guys were being dicks at all. And I agree with what everyone has said so far :grinpimp:

Doing things that are actually quite easy but seem daunting and scary do need a push the first time.

If my friends hadn't ridden me so hard in high school I would have never learned to do anything on a car. Its all with good intentions and i'm sure John knows that.

John once you do a few things on the truck it will all start to fall into place.... if you can do the things with electronics that i've seen in your truck and on your FB page mechanical engine work will be as easy drinking a beer.

At the same time if you don't have the time or the tools this time around and need it done ASAP as you don't have another ride, just take it somewhere. You can learn your truck in smaller steps if needed, and wanted, in the future.

sorry to hear of the virus John, but this gives you time to research the task at hand...I dont wish to pressure you to do anything you dont want to, just give you confidence that it is possible....

Damn, when it rains it pours - get well soon.

I too was a bit daunted when I opened my motor for head work. This was despite having done all kinds of metal work, tranny swap, power steering, etc. Just never had been inside a motor. Turns out it was as simple as pie - of course this was a desmogged 2F - doesn't get much simpler than that. But now, having dived in headfirst on this 2FE project, not much scares me anymore. Do what you are comfortable with, but push yourself to learn and save some money in the process. GL.

Did I see your rig in the Fred Anderson repair lot? I drive by on the way to work and saw a rig in the back lot that looked a lot like yours...

Better not be lol
