I agree fully , i was focused on the moment getting a vehicle unstuck.
 
I use rigging for work everyday and my life depends on the tools and rigging I use and I would never trust chinese rigging of any kind. The companies I work for use crosby, holland or cm rigging.
I prefer the CM for personal use as a smaller diameter will give you 3/4 ton more on your wll compared to a crosby.

I was taught to never tighten or over tighten a shackle for lifting use, as you will not be able to unscrew by hand, a 1/4 turn back is all thats needed although some go more and some leave the pin tight.

However, if you want to leave the shackle on the bumper or wherever the pin could un screw and come loose, rather than over tighten it, either buy the right type of round pin with cotter or bolt pin with nut and cotter or use a mouse tail to secure the pin. ^ Good info! Like you I back the pin off on my D-rings/shackles by 1/8-1/4 turn or so (from Bill Burke). Interestingly enough in the CM link you provided they specifically address pin tightness:

"How tight does the pin need to be?
The pin must be tightened hand tight or until pin head is fully seated against the body of the shackle. It may be necessary to tighten an additional 1/8 turn to ensure proper engagement. Do not back the pin off the body of the shackle."


From a structural point of view this makes absolute sense...although not as convenient ;)
 
Personally I don't leave my shackles hanging on the bumper full time on a rig that gets used on the road anyway. But if you do and if your shackle is adversely affected by 10-15 ftlbs applied to the pin to keep it from vibrating loose, you are really really really using some crappy crappy crappy shackles.
