I'll see how this works out. :meh:

Simplest I could come up with, without welding anything into the truck.

Interesting!

Might bounce, just the tension on the vertical pipe, or when you tighten the lug nut it puts the tire in tension tight against the box?

Yeah it's in tension against everything. Can't move it by reefing on it, I don't see it bouncing unless maybe if I'm on a really s***ty washboard road and driving like an a******

Even then, tire might slide around a little bit but it can't really go anywhere.

I like that I can remove it and still have the full flat surface of the headache rack, without bits of tire mounts sticking out.

I could see needing a bolt on the bottom piece but I'll wait.

Not going anywhere in this weather anyway with no roof 🤣

Chickens and eggs.

If I'm gonna do a soft top I need a proper seatbelt attachment point.

So I cleaned all the old crap off this hoop. Should work . I had wanted to do up a new one, but all I'd really gain is some skinnier tube, and I already own this. :meh:

I'll have to take some more measurements before I do anything that's hard to reverse, because as much as I hate the hard top, it'd be nice if it still fit.

Something that would drive me nuts is if this wasn't parallel, but it looks surprisingly close considering who measured it 3 years ago 🤣

I don't know if I'll put the front hoop in or not. I distinctly remember smashing my knee into it more than once. 💩

Never knew you had an 80 series? RHD?

Remarkably parallel. Doesn't even make a twinge on my OCD. Front hoops are over rated. Not like you're gonna be
crawling around on crooked hillside trails with this thing.

Thing I like most about them is being able to latch the ws frame to them solidly. You don't get the shaking when the wind catches the bikini.

And you can get the door gaps all perfect. Especially on aluminum tubs where the cowl joint isn't that rigid.

But I don't like bars over the doors and I really don't like smashing my knee into them🤣

Having to move the seatbelts from hardtop to the headache rack and back again is one little pain in the ass I won't miss.

Maybe a spreader bar like my BJ74 that connects the hoop to the corner of the windshield frame? If I were home I’d bring one over. Best pic I’ve got to show but window frame covers it

Look at the lower structure connector on your hard top. If you can separate that from the fibreglass you could attach it and leave it on, just figure out a way to secure the fibreglass on and off

Nah, I don't like anything over the doors when the top is off. I'll live with them if it's a nice cage, but that's about it.

I usually go with half doors, and last couple years it's been months without even the bikini top on it.

I'm going to build a factory style soft top, plan is to use tabs off the rear hoop to support it, I just want to get the frame figured out so I can mount it to a mock-up tub on a piece of plywood. Hopefully make the canvas part more convenient.

Then I'll put the ht back on for the winter.

Had a bit of a delay on this as I remembered reason #10054 why I'm not a plumber...

Swapping out the trainspotting toilet of an old dude kinda puts you off doing anything other than brain cleaning with strong alcohol for a day or two.

If you're a plumber you either get used to that, or die of a detonated liver...I'm not sure which is worse

Anyways, one s***ty hoop with seatbelt attachments. Will make getting the top on and off a bit quicker. I still might play with a front hoop, just so this is braced at the top, but any crash in a 40 that's hard enough to bend that tube will probably total the truck and kill the driver, so I'm not too worried about that.

Can't be much different in strength to the thin tin attachment point of a 40 hard top, or factory exhaust tubing roll bar.

I'll throw it in tomorrow and then I might just say ****it for the time being on the soft top thing, and put the lid on.

Thinking about it, I may have to see if I can find some 40 roll bar padding.

Pretty sure someone was making repros out there...:hmm:

Been meaning to get to this for years, but seems I always forget about it until the day I'm putting the top on...and then it pisses me off all winter.

Safe to say, that strip has been on one or two cruisers 🤣

I can only take credit for one ugly notch. When I cleverly assumed the squirter nozzle would be centered :bang:

Is that the one from me? The one that was still there but ready to rust to dust? Heh it needed a sand blast, rust converter then epoxy dip!

Should have been stainless.. ! :hmm:

Years ago I almost bought a one piece fibreglass roof from gozzard composites. The company has nice products but ordering was too haywire for me. I wish I had because my roof ring is rusting again.. I missed my opportunity, for a short time Dan at 4wheel was the Canadian distributor for them back when I ordered my 4 doors and hard top sides.

I don't think so, pretty sure I took this off that extra long hard top, which means it was on several cruisers...like at least 4 🤣

I made a new end for one once, with just a hammer, but I'm hoping this is the last time I put the hard top on.

I'm not gonna call it perfect, but hopefully it pisses me off less when I look at it...and hopefully I got the nozzle notch in the right ******* place this time.
