I would get either a used crossmember or a new oem one.

Sure you can fix that but the crossmember is not expensive and well, time = money. Plus you do a good job and nobody will be able to tell it is repaired.

Cheers

Yeah man! Ordered the part number, doh moment on amayama epc under chassis/frame cross member no.1. Never had to go to the chassis section before. Most of the time amayama compares quite favourably for smaller bits and pieces and shipping is really cheap.

The diff housing is another story. It is straighter than the bent one on the good troopy. My truth stck is an old barbell neighbour threw out, the kids never use it, and and some ebay bushes 25mm id 30od, then 30mm id 36od. Don't have a lathe. The mob which sell shiny new chrome bar wanted me to drive over to pick up despite lockdown, so making do with what I have.

. But the perch is all slopped out as the pvo knob drove for quite awhile
with loose ubolts. So cut some new perch tops to weld from the old slopped out saddles. Work in process..I save the fun bits like removing broken glow plugs for the arvos! sorry pics in reverse order.

you are lucky in WA, keep the poxy bastards out!
I don't know now how much longer that will last.

How much was the new transverse member?

yeah too many idiots. big trouble is, just takes one selfish a hole idiot.
having lockdown and a spare troopy to learn and fix gives me a meaningful project. Last year I built a ping pong room for the boys. But the middle boy is way too competitive for everyone. glad to be at home with my family. also glad not to be in afghanistan. However, great potential for things to get pretty s***e here. Lots of stupid unhappy people.

$300 bucks for shiny new cross member no.1, + $15 for shipping, got some fuse links for $10 (ebay cheapest is $24) and some other bibs and bobs, starter switch etc. slow shipping now though. Order and payment use to go straight through, shipping quite fast for price. But now they have to review the order and get you to agree upon shipping delay. I think it lands in W.A. firstly.

Many things in oz shall run out as we don't make it. Secondhand is getting top dollar.

Overall, not too bad considering the hunt, the drive, wrecker would charge at least 100-200 wait for them to cut and then me grind and convert rust.
There is plenty to do on this dog of a troopy. Mind you, a shiny new axle housing from amayama would have been over $1500...so worth me to get a whole almost complete wreck which was 80kms away. As I love my good troopy!
