I am looking at different wheel options for my FJ40.

I plan to go to 37" tires when I do a spring over, but rather than running a 15" rim I would like to run a 16-17" rim.

I found Trail Worthy Fab who has a SMOKIN deal on custom hummer beadlock wheels (setup with the appropriate backspacing and bolt pattern for my Land Cruiser axles). PVC spacer, with 37x12.50x16.5 TreadWright Muddog (same pattern as the old MT/R's) tires. For $466.95

I can get into some IROK Radials for about $400 per tire, but I would also need new wheels...

Does anybody have experience with hummer wheels for input?

I wouldn't use 16.5" rims. Tire options for whole number sizes are greater, so if you have issues in the Boonies they can be remedied easier. If 37s are your choice, 17" or 18" rim is what I would suggest.

Carry a spare. If your in the 37+ size it will be a special order no matter your rim size.

In my case, i rarely drive my Mini more than an hour away to wheel on its own. Any further and I trailer it.

It's hard to beat 75.00 for a 37" tire and having a supplier within a couple of hours.

Hummer rims work great but are HEAVY!!

My Irock 40's are almost 150 lbs on re-centered hummmer 16.5" beadlocks. A 40" Irock on a standard steel rim weighs in at about 80 lbs.

Do the ones you are looking at come with stamped centers or plate centers?

Did anyone mention they are heavy?

IMHO you need Longfields (birfs and inners) and 4W disk to run these tires, I'm really thinking about upgrading the rear axles as well.

When dealing with TWF you need large doses of patience, great people but not real quick to respond to customer calls and e-mails. It took me nearly a month to get a replacement tire, on the other hand I was out of the 30 day warranty period so I was getting a break to begin with.
