no seriously..awesome work. that thing looks stout and matches your front end work nicely. no side wraps though? whats that setup weigh? id be down for one of those...but i think the mrs would be upset if i sold one of the kids to fund it. i may hit you up for a slee oem 80 style swingout though...and perhaps some mounts for my jerry cans and propane tank on the trailer?

Sure, that trailer has a lot of potential for all kinds of goodies. We didn't weight the bumper but I still have Sopel's at the shop and have been curious myself. Didn't do the side wraps on the 60 since they would hang down too far, ideally you want to cut off some body work and then you can get then into a good spot to protect the rest and not lose clearance.

Rear quarter raps also add more potential volume for fuel or water tanks.

Maybe you should also get into welding up aux fuel tanks.

Destaco ?

Very nice indeed Matt - top quality. That round plate for the spring pin is a great idea. What type of clamps are those - are they Destaco or something else ?

How do rear quarter raps add fuel storage?
I can do bumpers for anything, even non-Toyota.

Chop out the fender and build them hollow.

I like the last part... I'll let the other non-toy people know. Guess you might need a truck to do a mock up on for those too eh? :D

sure you can cut out the rear quarters for storage of either fuel or other things, it's useless space as far as I'm concerned.
Anything can be made, and the good part of custom is that it can be made to what you want as opposed to being limited to just a set amount of options.

Spoken like a true fabricator

Looks really good Mat . Much too nice for my junk though.
Bars going forward with cut fenders would be good for protection and adding a lot of strength, that is a lot of weight hanging off the back.

The only issue with that is there needs to be some body work done to the rear quarters otherwise the protection hangs too low on the 60 and would snag everything. Tree branches can get caught up in there and do a lot of damage to the quarter. If they get cut off and capped then I can easily run a reinforcement all the way over to the wheel well line and give it another frame mount for the sides. Rear rock sliders so to speak.
The 80 series has it easier as they have the plastic "protection" there and once it's removed then you can have fun. Also the 80s have the rear wheels closer to the end of the truck where the 60 sticks out more.

Sonny that was uncalled for. I can tell you are upset that your heart isn't as giving as mine. Think of the inconvenience my wife will have to go through at the mall when other cruiserheads ask "where did you get that wicked bumper?" How about the pressure I will feel when I have to run for milk and some one delays me by asking about that amazing bumper, all the while knowning my children are waiting for their milk:mad:. I am willing to sacrifice myself and my familys lifestyle for the good of Matt's business

WOW that looks so good ... wanna build one for a 07 fj cruiser .. for real cdn_rider@hotmail.com
sorry 2nd post im new and i need sliders .. im also super close PoMo

Hi, now that I am back we can sit down and think about the design a bit more seriously. I talked to Drew a bit about it and so far the only available rear bumper that is a good choice and uses the back up sensors as well as has a tire swing out that is attached to the rear door does need some more improvements to make it better. From the wasted space I saw on the rear of the FJ the rear cross member can be entirely cut off and the bumper would replace it, the hitch can be recessed into the bumper giving the vehicle a much greater approach angle as well as shortening the rear by about 3-4". Drew's interests were focused on convenience and the ability to open both the tire swing out and rear door at the same time - which is not that rad to do but building safety and a back up lock for just in case is much harder and then becomes less convenient. We should sit down and see what you guys want and take it from there.
On a side note, Robert's bumper had some trail tests and did really well in some things and I will need to upgrade some other things. The clearance is greatly improved and he barely managed to touch it on the worst crossings, regrettably he backed into a tree and one of the swing outs hit which caused it break the locking pin and actually bend the stopping plate which was reinforced 1/4" steel - very impressive Robert! The swing outs were never really designed to act as tree pushers but I might have to redo the design to compensate :D . Also I've noticed that the UHMW (or whatever the hell that plastic is) is more durable then powder coating so I will be making a 2 piece slider for the swing out, one that is bolted to the bumper and the other to the swing out so it's plastic on plastic. That will assure many years of trouble free use.
Look forward to continued trail testing.

Found another one I like but still needs some work.

Mat,
Two things may interest me.

One is your swing for the tire. I made myself a bumper out of 2x6 boxed 1/4 steel. Cut up the ends and put a receiver in it. I would like to add a swing arm with a tire. Would you make one and provide everything, that all I need to do is cut a hole in the bumper and insert your swing arm hing and latches? If so how much $$...

Another item.... 60 series sliders. I want to make my own but I never find time anymore for projects? Have you thought of selling these too?

Cheers!
