Hey guys, I decided to make an exhaust system this saturday for the cruiser to unleash the beastly sound of the v8 under the hood. I went with 2.5" ehaust tube (a little larger than stock) and a flowmaster super 40 muffler. I pieced together the system using a universal flowmaster exhaust tube kit for a full size pickup along with 2 45* bends, a turn down, and some hangers. All of the tubes are mandrel bent and have slip fittings for alignment.

I first cut the old system out and then welded the new muffler into the desired position and checked for clerance on the rear upper control arm. I had to make a little adapter to fit on the existing tube. I then used the universal kit pieces to make my way over the axle and then the 45* pieces to make my way around the spare tire and then the turn down just to finish it all off.

Let me know if you have any questions. It took about 5 hours by myself with an auto lift and some other goodies. :D

By the way, it does not sound as loud as I was anticipating. It has a low and powerful rumble sound. I had a Silverado with the same setup and it sounded totally different so I was very surprised.:steer:

I second that. Must post link to YouTube video so we can get the full effect.

excellent fabrication work!
you really need to replace the factory exhaust manifolds if you can do it. Then mated to your custom exhaust system you will get a totally different vehicle than what you purchased.

I;m looking forward to any future mods you make!
cheers

Thanks, I do have the DT headers from the group buy. Are you talking about the pipes after the collection tube? I did not want to do those right now due to the fact that I did not believe it to be too restrictive for the work and $$ involved. I was mainly looking for the awesome sound of a V8 and am not expecting any gains from this mod.

Dude,

You must get a video on it. I'm about to pull the trigger on that same muffler ( stock pipes). Looks great btw. Wish I had a welder handy

I will get a you tube video out by this weekend hopefully so stay tuned!

I would highly recommend the Hushpower muffler over the 40 series. It has a bit more rumble but far from loud.

Is this basically a "Cat" back exhaust? Stock/Original cat converter still on the truck?

nice job.. I would consider running that tail-pipe a little longer.. last thing you want is exhaust exit UNDER the passenger compartment where it can get sucked in any leaks into the cabin...

yep, everything between the headers and to the muffler is still stock. I might upgrade to high flow cats ad re do the tubing in between when I have more time and $$ but it is good for right now.

I am curious, how exactly it would get sucked in?

Looks good, wish I had access to a shop like you do!

I have been considering this as a mod myself. Looks great. Would also like to hear a video of how it sounds. I have the DT headers and would think this combo would make the LC sound much better.

pretty common knowledge really... there is a reason they put the pipe to the edge of a car... although you'd have to have a really bad leak to get sick

exhaust fumes can be sucked into an opening/hole in the cabin area, if exhaust fumes pool under there somehow... mind you if you are in warmer areas it probably isnt as big a problem... in winter areas you drive with windows up all teh time...

Have a mechanic check the exhaust system of your car every year. A small leak in your car's exhaust system can lead to a build up of carbon monoxide inside the car.
Don't allow people to travel inside truck canopies and campers. Vehicle exhaust can be drawn into the covered or enclosed area of canopies and campers.
