I exploded the key on my LC. Where is current cheapest source for 89070-60090, i see on ebay at around 200$. BTW i do not need transmitter, just key housing. (But i dont think they are available without transmitter).

Thank you

I just replaced two key housing blanks on amazon for $3 a piece and had them cut for free at a local dealership. The place that was selling them on amazon was

Ditto.. bought 4 for a total of $21 shipped. They even have a few different colors, I picked up a blue one, just to see what it was like.

I've been using these replacement shells for years. They last just as long as the OEM version. Reality is that you'll replace the shell every couple of years so I keep one or two on the shelf.

I've had two dealerships in the Birmingham area refuse to cut my keys because they claim they charge $200 for theirs and wont risk messing the key I bought up and having to replace it with one of theirs. I politely informed him that the independent toyota/lexus service shop downtown will be getting my business for any repairs/service. I've been using my spare key and keep the transponder in the dash. I guess I'll try to have the new key cut at a hardware store.

Sutherlands home improvement ruined one of mine. So I went to the chevy dealership (closest toyota dealership is 70miles away) and they cut it for free. I like the idea of cutting to the vin # versus matching the old key. When they cut mine to match the old key it took some manual grinding to get it just right. Might not have that issue if the vin would have been used.

I keep the original factory key blade as my master, and have the shell blades cut from that by a local locksmith shop. The newly cut keys have always worked perfectly. YMMV, of course.

Dude there has to be a hundred threads on this topic. Try a search. Quick answer is eBay.

I wanted a update, because ebay is at 200$

Thank you, thats what i was looking for. :grinpimp:

EDIT: damn they do not ship to Canada

Any decent locksmith can cut you a new key shell using the Toyota code. If you give the Locksmith your VIN they can look it up for you.

Hey Mods isn't it about time for a sticky on this subject? How many more of these threads do we need?

3 pages!

Dude,

I only want a casing, that is what broke on my key. There are no locksmith in this continent that can help me except to get me a new casing and cut the key, a dealer can sell me a new key with a useless transmitter for 300$. My key is hybrid i'm using a other transmitter that NOBODY can program, even the dealer. If you wonder why, read my sig.

Note the words "new key shell" in my post. That is the same as "casing" Maybe you can cross reference that with your English/French dictionary.

Besides you just said you want a new casing only. Then you go on to say there are no locksmiths on this continent that can help you except to get you a "new casing" and cut the key. I'm confused. Isn't that what you just said you wanted. lol.

There are endless threads on here about getting new casings, many with links to excellent sources. My only point was we didn't need another one for the same thing that has been covered a hundred times. If you had spent 5 minutes searching and reading you would have found what you were looking for and we could have saved some of Ih8muds bandwidth for real tech.

Hell lets start another "what size tire fits" and "what color should I paint my wheels thread" . :flipoff2:

Yeah, if your always in threads, reading them when you have nothing else to do or no reason for being somehow, involved in the thread, i completely agree, there are too many thread about the same subject.

Thanks Shane.

On one of the key threads you'll find a pic of a metal key housing. Looked rugged as an axe and perfectly built. Someone needs to start building em and selling hundreds.

One more thing I'll mention; dont get a "flip key" from Bejing on Shanghai. I ordered one for under $20 delivered and had it cut. However, the red security light wont turn off as the "guts" to the three button key has to be rotated for this new flip key and the sensor is too far from the ignition to be recognized.

Thats all.

After going through 3 of the ebay versions in 3 years, I decided since my original OEM shell lasted almost 10 years the first time, I would order a new OEM shell through Beno. It was around $30 FWIW.....
