Pardon the interruption from an AVL guy, but you guys picked a great weekend for it, and the pics are super.
Did you guys cap at the top of Balsam Knob rd, or did you go past? I'm ashamed to say I've never camped there. I usually end up further down the ridge where the native still hang out. (but don't tell anyone)
So you know, that dude with the pig brings it around to schools fairs and harvest days. Lots of people think he's just a semi-urban legend--like a porcine-porting big-foot--or they think we have seen too many large leaf-peepers on bikes (which, let's face it, we have--and watched them load up the bikes into trailers at the KMart near the Parkway after the ride, but that's a whole 'nother complaint) You guys are some of the rare few to actually see the pig in full flight..
Anyway, very glad you had a good time. Thanks a for stopping in. All 10 of us remaining natives thank you for supporting the local economy. We will raise a pint of the local (Wee Heaviest or maybe a Highland Octoberfest) in your honor.
BTW, if you are GVL peeps, AVL is in your debt for Barley's who sorta helped kick-off the whole local beer scene.
Lastly, whatever happened to the 4WD shop at in Travelers Rest? I came through there last week and it was a weed-lot. It's been a while since I've been down that way, but I always looked forward to seeing whatever truggy-looking bunch of tubes he had sitting out front.
Cheers,
-C
