 So he won't be riding with you or Rafael? Hahahahahaaha

Hahaha. No, we need as much wait as we can to keep the four wheels down.

I should have an open passenger seat.

Well judging by your profile picture, I'll bring some extras in my first aid kit.... ;)

Judging from your profile pic it won't really matter. :flipoff2:

Be sure to add recovery points to your checklist. :D

That' my birthday weekend. Time to make some hard choices.

My Son's birthday is the 19th - on International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

ARB bumpers in the front are not approved recovery points. This was directly from Corporate ARB that I talked to in person.

So ARB said that the recovery points they build into their bumpers are not "approved"? Approved for what, and by whom?

I know that ARB recovery points are pretty flimsy, but I've used them numerous times to pull all kinds of trucks around.

Speaking of recovery points. He is very correct. You should have that on your check list along with a few other important items. You should have one frame mounted recovery point front and rear. ...

At this point, I'll hang my head in shame for having to show the world my dirty underbits at Big Creek:(

I WILL have CBI rear bumper with good solid recovery points on the 4Runner soon

I am wary of any recovery point that is not tied directly to the frame. I have seen plenty of face welded commercially available recovery tabs, I wont hook up to one if I am involved in the recovery. The forces involved in recovery of a vehicle are extremely dangerous and can go south in a big hurry. Using a non frame mounted recovery point is a quick way to find out for yourself.

From ARB directly face to face with their Corporate folks. Their front little shackle holes are not to be used as recovery points. They are not approved for that. In fact if you look at the ones coming out the last few years from them those little flimsy things are gone. Please remember now that I am a certified 4wd guy I can now talk directly to higher ups now in numerous places and ask them the important questions. And this stuff is important to me as I need to know about all vehicles out there now not just Cruisers.

And from ARB in their mounting directions it says to retain and reuse the factory recovery points.

I'm not questioning your authority dude, just asking. It seems silly to have the points there if they're not supposed to be used for anything other than lifting the vehicle. I'll remember this fact for the future, thank you

my crew is definitely in. Can't wait.

I spoke with ARB about the recovery points on the Deluxe Bull Bar. They had several reps at GSMTR. They said that it is a legit recovery point as long as you are pulling directly in line from the front. If you pull at an angle, you'll bend the points or tear them off.

Edit: I'm not saying it's a good idea... I don't trust them either.

Question: has anyone with a deluxe bar used longer bolts to install recovery points attached to the frame (under the bull bar)?

Agree on all points. Anyone looking at the built in recovery points comes away with the same conclusion .... "they must be okay to use since ARB put them there but dang that looks thin". I welded reinforcements onto mine and still don't care for them. I am getting ready to try doing a winch mount on my non-winch deluxe bar soon and, at that time, plan to investigate cutting the bumper so-as to get some frame mounted recovery loops poking out. Will try to document the details.

If you go to ARB'S website you will see in the instructions pdf it says to reuse the factory stuff attached to the frame under it.

Now let's get back to the purpose of this thread. And that's to remember someone gone too soon and let's wheel / drink something in his honor.
