The original post to this thread had a significant focus on vehicle inspection and safety ... I don't see our conversation being off topic in the least.
FNG here, didn't know there was a significance to the name. Sorry, so this is a memorial event?
Roger that ! Let's drive on then.Completely agreed. Seeing as this is the first year we're enforcing the inspection, it's certainly worthy of discussion!
I just installed a new cable and am doing the E-brakes now. I shot one of the dang adjusters across the shop with a wire wheel, waiting on new partOCD has its disadvantages

On that note, as the rules are now, to my interpretation a vehicle with an automatic trans does not require a working E-brake as it has the P gear. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am of the mind that a working E-brake should also be included for vehicles with an automatic. I am more concerned with the emergency braking function as opposed to the parking function. I.E. brakes fail on a grade.
For the inspection, the way it's worded "parking brake", has traditionally been interpreted as what keeps a vehicle still when you aren't driving anymore. "Emergency Brake" function, as per what you've articulated, is not evaluated on the inspection for automatic vehicles.
That said, everyone should have a working emergency brake![]()
I tested the E-brake on the Crockpot this morning as I was leaving the house for work. It holds back a 3rd gear clutch dump! Woo Hoo! FE-check. Recovery points-check. I think all I need at this point is a working CB. I actually have a CB...and it works a little. I need someone who knows CB's to evaluate it though. It's an old school Cobra unit. Picks up a little but I suspect it needs to either be dialed in better or maybe just thrown in the garbage and replaced with a good hand-held. Anybody want to take a look at it for me? I haven't decided on a handle yet. I'm thinking old school Duke's of Hazzard...Crazy Cooter, Lost Sheep, Shepherd, Red Dog...something like that.
Yes! That would be splendid. I'll remind you, Johnny.I can bring a SWR meter and we can tune it up if you'd like. Remind me as we get closer.
I've got an SWR meter. Well, I will when it get it back in the next week. Don't know what to check for but we can look that up.
