Hello all,

I live in Phx, AZ but I was in Tucson on business this week and did not have time to rent a car for the short drive to Tucson so I decided to take the cruiser and get some use out of the new 5 speed tranny. It was parked at the Qwest bulding at 333 Wetmore Rd. (next to the Tucson mall) and some A-hole tried to steal it. Little did they know that I recently installed a kill switch so they were not able to take it, however they did steal my Glock and tore up my seats out of frustration I'm guessing. I understand from a friend in Tucson that there have been several cruisers targeted because they are so easy to break into. (they used a slim jim) Anyways, word to the wise....get a kill switch, alarm, both. Good luck and be safe cruiser heads. Oh, and by the way if you spot some tweaker running around with a Glock feel free to run his ass over with your cruiser.

Glad to hear they didn't get it thanks to a kill switch. I have got install something. There is too much theft going on. Sat. night I put out Christmas decor. Sun. morning, my reindeer were gone. WTF.

Sad to hear they got something out of it and destroyed the seats for no good reason. Sorry for your loss, but I guess it could have been worse. Right?

I bet it was more trouble about the Glock then it was about the truck. Did you use the kill switch thread for ideas?

I guess you should change to title of this thread to "Gun theft alert..."

thumbs up on the kill switch, also could be an sks?

Is yours a 60, 62, or other series?

Slim Jim on a 60?

IIRC the 60 doors have a type of guard that prevents the use of a slim jim to jimmy up the lock. Can anyone confirm?

If it's sitting for a while in front of the house you can just pull the coil wire so it wont start. Not a solution for everyday use, but it'll work until you get some type of kill switch installed.

elkiny - Sorry to hear about the damage and the stolen firearm. Bummer. I am glad, however, to hear that your Cruiser wasn't taken...nice work on the kill switch! My 60 was recently stolen, but, thanks to this board (I posted re the theft and one of the guys found it and called the cops!) I got it back in surprisingly fine shape! I now have a clutch peddal lock...and am contemplating a kill switch!

It's an 85 FJ60. Does anyone know if this has a guard to prevent the use of a slim jim?

Never seen anything like that in a 60 door.

I know my '88 FJ62 has a guard. I locked my keys in my truck, running, while getting ready to leave work one eve last winter.
My boss has a slim jim in his toolbox, and years of auto body experience, and couldn't get it, as it had a guard bar across the lock mechanism. Took almost 3 hours for AAA to get there. The location of the shop I work at is semi rural, and there was only one AAA lock popper guy available. They said about 30-40 mins. Had I known it was going to take as long as it did, I coulda got a ride home, grabbed a spare key, and made it back in much shorter order.

Second on the no slim jim. Tried and tried on my 62 and wouldn't happen. Ended up breaking a window out.

What the hell?? So these trucks are getting stolen now? For a long time the ongoing joke was that I only locked my 60 so people would not get in to sh*t in it.
I've had two Toyota pick-up trucks stolen, both were recovered just days after with minimal (if any) damage, but I sure as hell don' want to go through the same experience with my LandCruiser.
