So I'm raking the freaking pine needles out of my yard today. Bagging them and carrying 15 large yard work bags to the front. The 93 is sitting with the tailgate open and I don't notice this. Been walking past that truck since 1993 so I'm pretty familiar with its dimensions to the point I probably don't even look at it anymore. Just walked right into the corner of the tailgate, which got me mid thigh just as my weight was committed to that step. Felt like it hit bone. Got a nice bloody scrape and already the bluish cast of what will be a nasty bruise tomorrow. Ow! I'm into the heavy part of my bike training right now, so the quad's not a good spot to doink. Was one of those things that hurts so much it stunned me into silence - usually I sound like a New York taxi driver when I bang myself.

Technical content: When you're done unloading the 80, it's best to shut the stupid tailgate.

Ouch! Well, it could have chopped your dork off! But don't worry, I'm sure the 'Cruiser didn't do it intentionally...

Hope you get well soon.

Thankfully people are built with a little more flesh around that part of the body. I passed by the back of my cruiser and my shin got full impact as I walked straight into my hitch. Man, thats a world of pain. Doug, I feel your pain in both the literal and figurative sense.

I guess the tech requirement of this post could be satisfied by asking if anyone has developed an idea to mitigate the problem of walking into the back of your truck. Any ideas? Perhaps its just to close the tailgate or remove the hitch.

Cheers.

Buddy of mine painted his hitch stinger bright red. Not that it would help me as it's the 'no look' aspect of walking into things. Has been a decade or more, but walking into a hitch with your shin is far more painful than this was. Ever see the bloopers from Bill Dance's Fishing show? He waves good bye to the camera and floors a quad only to find it is in reverse into a lake. He knocks a stuffed full tackle box off a dock. But the worst is he's smiling and saying something to the camera and walks into his trailer hitch - he's on the ground completely in a second. Never seen a worse one - just nails it.

Nailed my forehead on the upper hatch corner of the 60 once. Came around the corner and wham. The shocks didn't hold it up to proper height. Got new ones right after that.

Just another reason we need ambulance doors for the 80's. Get a lawyer and contact toyota and demand they change all of our 80's over.

The real question here is: Did you hurt the Cruiser?

I feel an investigation into possible Cruiser abuse might be in order.

I don't call mine the Bruiser for nothing

Ouch - I usually get the upper gate on the temple but I feel your pain. Probably feels kind of like a handlebar end does during a good race crash :frown:

I say take aspirin for a few days, pedal easy, then get right back into training. Sometimes an injury this time in the season is good forced rest. Makes you hungry! :bounce: .

Heh, I'm back into biking because of a thigh injury, I doubt it'll stop you! Jamison walloped his thigh bad yesterday also, walked stiffly all night. I wasn't sure to ice it or heat, it was several hours later I came into it, I voted heat.

Scott, it's wierd but I just reread some of the thread about the accident with the crane and was curious to know how your leg is doing. I was actually looking up starter / alternator issues when I came across that thread - don't know how that happened. Those were some scary pictures. I assume the leg is doing well?

Doug,

I did the same thing 4 mo. into training for the Marine Corps Marathon last year. I racked my knee on the hitch. I ended up having to see a DR. I had a deep bone bruise. He recommended time off of training.... yeah right ;) Anyway, got through it as I am sure you will too!! It still occasionally bothers me, 6 mo later!! Good Luck and I say COLD.

Add me to the shin+hitch club. Once on a corolla, once on the cruiser. ( don't even ask why I had a hitch on the corolla...lol)

you and your cruiser need to have a talk:flipoff2: no sorry man working on my 62a couple of weeks ago banged my head on the bottom of the tailgate

It's better than walking around back at night and nailing your shin on the tow ball!

Technical: remember to take your tow ball off after towing.

I'm glad I'm lifting mine this weekend....I can't count the times I've walked into the open upper hatch and hit my head... All I have to do to fix it is lift it

Ouch! I do that at least once a month on the receiver/ball. Nice mid-shin height; I think I have a permanent dent there now :o Ya'd think I would have learned to take it off after towing, huh?

On the cold/hot thing: For the first several hours to a day, use cold to reduce the swelling and pain, then switch to hot to get the blood circulating better to heal. I'd steer clear of asprin on the first day or two--it's an anticoagulant and could cause more bleeding/bruising.
