Cruiser prices through the floor.

Anyone notice that cruiser prices have fallen through the floor recently? 80's are cheap right now and the 40's are even better. I am half way tempted to pick up a 40 because for the price of an OME lift and maybe some tires I can get a really fun weekender to beat on.

Am I smoking used conventional oil? Is this local just to me here in Utah?

e.g. 1997 @ 124k (very clean) asking $5400.

I found a white LOCKED 94 with 160k locally for $2300. Said the headgasket was bad. I gave a verbal that I wanted it and would pick it up on a Sat (this was a Wed). On Fri before I go to pick it up someone showed up with cash in hand. There are many deals to be had.

It's a terrible economy plus everyone knows that gas prices are going to end up back at $4/gal. or more.

Yep- here too. The Japanese import diesel 80's are far cheaper now than when I was looking. There are still exceptions for condition etc, but it's a buyers market.

How much would you say for one in good condition? I wonder if it would be easier to bring one from Canada to the states rather than from Japan...

I have been tempted to get a 40 too! Prices are good and it sure would look nice next to the 80. I think it is a combo of economy and gas prices' inevitable rise.

Some guys are still asking $14-$16k Cdn, but I think they are on glue. My HDJ81 is absolutely mint, I paid $15k Cdn but I would be suprised if I could sell it for $11K (not that I want to).

I know of two in the ~$10k range.

Aww man, how to I get more info on those? And again i wonder how hard it would be to bring into the states... I know it's not easy.

Honestly with your import laws, I think it might be easier to do a 1/2 cut, but I know that there are RHD in the states, so someone knows how to do it.

I just picked up a '93, lockers, ABS, 180k for $5200.

The body/pain/interior/engine were all in great shape. Few minor things to fix, but nothing major.

I check Craigslists all the time just in case a super good deal comes along I can't pass up. I really shouldn't be doing that, since I have no where to park it and the wife would absolutely kill me, but I've definately noticed prices going through the floor.

I've also noticed that there seems to less and less of them for sale for some reason. I don't know if it's just availability or what. The one model that I'm not seeing for sale is the 100 series. But the few early models that I have seen are going for pretty cheap, compared to a few years ago.

I think that there might be less out there because folk realize that if they can sell something that is worth say, 8K for 5K, then they might as well just hang onto it. Why pay someone $3000 to kick you in the nuts?

My experience is the vast majority of owners have no idea what they have. Most of them who bought these used years ago, just wanted a nice SUV to haul the kids around. And now all they are is giant gas guzzlers to them.

$3000 might seem like stealing money from people to them.

Put it another way, what do you think a 1995 Chevy Tahoe with a $130,000 miles on it is worth? Not much. And that's how these rigs are viewed by most people.

Which is good for us or anyone trying to find one.

Suddenly, dumping thousands of dollars into a Toyota mini-truck or 4runner to weld in a solid front axle may not make as much sense, when these babies can be had for the price of a solid axle conversion kit and a beat up old mini-truck.

I originally started looking at Tacomas and 4Runners and quickly realized that 80's cost the same if not less sometimes. With a 4Runner you can maybe expect 18-20 mpg on the HWY. I just nursed 17 mpg out of my 80 combined driving. So glad that I went with the 80.

If you are able to import from Japan you should look at importing from the UK - the value of the £ makes cars, trucks and bikes very cheap to the rest of the world.

A VX Amazon has leather, 7 seats and front and rear diff locks. Nearly all are diesel. My 4.2 manual does 27 mpg
