Cruiser destinations in Utah

We'll be taking the Cruiser up into Utah for the first time in early July -- it sure proved itself down in the Mojave this spring. Can you suggest any 4WD roads leading to good stuff like isolated creeks, canyons, or hot springs? We don't want to beat things up unnecessarily by creating new roads, but we also prefer to be camping alone.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

One of my favorite places in Utah to "get away from it all" was the Deep Creek Mountains. Pretty? check. Mountains? check. Camping alone? double-check check check... Haven't been there in 10 years though, so not sure what it's like now. South of Wendover on the UT/NV border. Maybe the Wasatch guys will give up some of their favorite places...

Great idea -- sounds like just what I was looking for. From the first Googling that I've done, it sounds like the area may not have changed much since you were there. BLM talks about old roads that have been allowed to grow over. Thanks!

Keep in mind it is very remote, and there are absolutely no services anywhere nearby (no stores, no gas, no nuthin)... Doubtful that cell phones work there either. I've been out there on a Saturday and never passed nor seen another person.

Hmm.. July ?..

Wrong time of year for the places that I normally go to in Utah ( WAY too hot !).. how far north do you plan on travelling ?

Heat . . . yeah . . . that's the other thing we needed to research. We were hoping that, Utah being north of the Mojave, there would still be some coolness in the canyons in July. Maybe we'll have to schedule that trip for next spring -- the timeframe wasn't my choice, but there it is. Hey, at least it's not August!

Glad to hear that there are no services, etc., near the Deep Creeks, although I wouldn't mind running across a little tavern with a view of the mountains. We''ll go out totally self-contained for a week or so.

We actually found a watering hole like that in the Trinities . . .

yeah, if you cant handle some heat, utah wont be that interesting in july, it will be uncomfortable. but, i cruise utah backwoods in my '40 with the top ON with no problems. just bring lots of water and some comfortable shorts. if your only chance is in the summer, take it. utah is WORTH it.

Nope there is not much relief from the heat, even down in the canyons that time of year (plus its monsoon season)... I would stay North as possible ( above Cedar City ) or in the higher mountain ranges for a July trip.

As far as the heat goes....How do you think I feel being here in Vegas for Summer !? ... Unless I want to drive 300-400 miles, my wheeling/hiking plans go to hell for those 4 months

Deep Creeks still have snow on them in July so you shouldn't be too worried about the heat out there. It's warm, 90+, down on the valley floor but the mountains are very nice. No people. no services. wonderful scenery. good choice. just got home from CM and i'm pretty tired. PM me if you want some info. been out there a half dozen times or so.
