I thought I read somewhere gravity flow tanks were one of things CARB gave a thumbs down to. I will see if I can find the document to cite.

We haven’t had emissions testing in the affected urban core of WA state going on 3 years now (2009 and newer never needed them). We never had inspections either unless you brought in an out of state vehicle or built your own trailer.

Hummmm. Sounds funny that a gravity flow tank would cause emissions of any kind. No wiring, nothing mechanical, just fill and flow. :hmm:

When I go in for a regular smog inspection they always look at the gas cap. If the LRA unit has a second cap under the flap like some tanks do, or anything there that does not look stock, the smog inspector would have to be blind to miss it. But they do not do much more of an inspection than that, and then they run it on the dyno machine (if it's not awd- awd cars get the static test).

However if you're required to go to a STAR station, those folks look under the car with mirrors and do a through inspection. When I went it was with a car that was older and often modified and they acted like they were border patrol agents looking for drugs. Those folks would notice the tank. The DMV decides if you have to go to a STAR station based on the vehicle profile (i.e. they're mostly owned by 22 year old video game testers) and also a random sample. A GX is unlikely to qualify on the first criteria but might on the second.

If you're in an area that is not subject to the more stringent SF and LA area regulations it may be more lax.
Lol so glad I left that state. That is ridiculous.

While there are a lot of things I don't like about the car smog program, I have to admit that it's been successful in reducing smog. In the '70s and '80s smog in the SF bay area was visibly worse than it is now, even though we now have 50% more people and cars.

It's definitely helped, but the problem is that the program isn't common sense focused - it's any and all changes. I ran a crank case breather that recirculated air back into the intake on my other car, and while that actually helps the car run cleaner, it's technically illegal because it's was a change to how the car deals with its emissions.

I wouldn't get rid of the cats, even on my track/race cars. But an extra fuel tank? That's kinda annoying.

Hi @wardharris , I am curious about how the Nomad Valve Body and TC lock up are fairing after some time. Would you be willing to report on your long term impressions?

Did you happen to do any other valve swapping work while you were in the trans (eg sonnax swaps/kits)?

I'm speccing out what I'd like to do, or not do, as I expect to crack my trans for a oil and filter swap in the near future.

Thanks!

I heard it’s illegal to work on your own car in Sacramento
Truth be told, Sacramento doesn't any major repairs "on the street". So yeah you can work on your vehicle, but has to be kind of out of sight, e.g.: driveway, garage, back/side yard, etc.
Just keep it off the street.

Truck still performs exactly as following install. Shifts great, excellent throttle response (thanks in part from Pedal Commander), improved fuel economy. Getting 16 +/- around town and 18+ on hiway.

No other comments regarding either upgraded VB or replacement parts from Sonnax. The WAT Nomad was plug/play with no modifications to either the OEM core or the WAT VB prior to installation.

Not seeing the valve body on Cruiser Brothers site. Did these ever make it into production?

Cruiser Brothers does not list them on their website, so you need to call them to order it. They are the only US distributor that I know of. I have one in my A750F - GREAT MOD - can't imagine driving a GX without one.

They sent me an invoice which I paid over the phone for mine, it shipped out shortly thereafter. It's been in for about 18 months now.
