Regarding the after market brakes you added, now that it's been about 8 months, how do you feel about the brakes now?
I get a very slight wobble when braking and I only have 44k miles on my 2013 GX. I may think about getting after market rotors and pads.
FYI I am running almost 34" tires and it's a full expo build (read: heavy).
Your thoughts?

Much better than OE Lexus!

With all due respect, can you elaborate a little more?
  • No wobble?
  • Stiffer/more solid brake peddle feel?
  • Still feels solid in rain and snow?
  • Wear? (well... it may be a little too soon to tell)
  • Part number and cost? (rotors and pads for all four corners)

Gladly
  • No wobble/grab as before
  • Very firm and progressive pedal
  • No ABS, just firm stopping, very solid in dry, wet, snow (I am in Idaho, so have had plenty of snow time)
  • PM Georg for a quote - he is handling brakes these days - I am doing tanks/bars/seats @orangefj45 :)

Awesome! Many thanks Wardharris!

@wardharris - Resurrecting this thread because I saw you talking about the Nomad Valve body on your 460.

Does the A750 valve body from WAT just bolt right up to the A760 and work?

There is a big discussion over on GXOR of people with 460 transmission troubles and we are hoping maybe the WAT valve body could help a lot of people.

Here is the thread if you want to jump in

Just went to their website to double check and they still don't do California:

Might be CARB related... evaporative emission would probably need to be shown to handle the addition

Fuel Tanks

Replacement fuel tanks must be identical to the original part. Add-on fuel tanks, or tanks with greater capacity than the original tank are legal for street use only if they have been issued an Executive Order.

Who, what, when, where and how does one get an "Executive Order"????

Buy it at Arizona retailer and have it installed.

The aftermarket manufacturer gets testing done by a lab that shows that the part does not increase emissions too much and they submit that to CARB. Hundreds of parts have EOs. It's not rocket science. But it does cost some money for the testing. So it's only done for parts where sales are expected to be high enough to cover the cost and the time. Fuel tank testing requires an environmental chamber. Which some labs have but it might cost more than tailpipe emissions testing for an engine mod.

My previous car and my current car both had engine tuning software and parts with CARB EOs. I um modified the SW on the previous car (for driveability of course) and would reload the EO approved tune for smog tests. They can detect that now so on the current car I'm running the unmodified EO tune. It's from a different company and they don't offer the ability to diddle with the tune yourself anyhow. OTOH it's fine out of the box.

So if I did an out of state install, do you think when it's time to smog, it wouldn't pass just because of an extra fuel tank?

When I go in for a regular smog inspection they always look at the gas cap. If the LRA unit has a second cap under the flap like some tanks do, or anything there that does not look stock, the smog inspector would have to be blind to miss it. But they do not do much more of an inspection than that, and then they run it on the dyno machine (if it's not awd- awd cars get the static test).

However if you're required to go to a STAR station, those folks look under the car with mirrors and do a through inspection. When I went it was with a car that was older and often modified and they acted like they were border patrol agents looking for drugs. Those folks would notice the tank. The DMV decides if you have to go to a STAR station based on the vehicle profile (i.e. they're mostly owned by 22 year old video game testers) and also a random sample. A GX is unlikely to qualify on the first criteria but might on the second.

If you're in an area that is not subject to the more stringent SF and LA area regulations it may be more lax.

Is cruiser bros or long-range America still offering parts for GX460? Interested in the WAT HD trans cooler, valve body, etc. Cannot find any reference to these parts/kits on their websites. TIA.

Great info.
We have a guy we've gone to for decades that only does smog. He's not a mechanic or gas station or anything else, just smog. So since I've had my rig, it's been new enough to not require smog, but this next cycle I'll have to bring it in.
It'd be nice if the LRA just flows into the stock tank and it's all gravity flow so there's just one filler. No pumps or anything, just gravity. Not sure if a tank in the spare tire location is high enough for a gravity flow.
For me that would be the ideal second tank.
