Me. A gal needs to go once every ten years. :)

Drew and I usually go a week early to meet the Copper State Cruisers on Saturday to do some trails south of Moab.
I enjoy and learn more on these pre-runs than the Cruise Moab event, which stars on Wednesday. Getting down there is tough, but once you are there you are in 'wheeling narvana' - warm during the day, great traction and outstanding scenery. This picture is from the remote western part of Canyonlands, called the Maze . I am planing a few days in there, before Saturday

My hope for going in 2012 is hanging by a thread right now. I hope to know for sure in the next week or 2.

I am working on going to this...

I've got from April 20th to May 09th off in anticipation.

I'll be there. I am hoping to get down a few days early as well to explore the Maze with Glenn and whoever else is in for that.

Time to start thinking about trail selections. I'm thinking I want to run Golden Spike... Not sure which others this go around.

I'm going to try and make this trip as well, but I will know for sure when it gets closer. The Maze looks like a great run. I think Golden Spike and Poison Spider are part of the same trail? I would like to do that one again, since we only did a 1/3 of it, when Graham and I went. Too bad we left our supplies back at camp, otherwise we would of camped up there for the night, and finish it the next day.

Hi Glen,
I am planning in CM2012 as well. In addition I plan to come early and hook again with you guys on Sat. That is if Tools will let me in a second time :-)

Maze Info

For those thinking of going into the Maze -there are a few things to consider. It is the most remote of the three region of Canyonlands and takes the most time to get in and out. The town of Green River (north of Moab on I90) is the last last fuel stop.
- A National Park permit is needed for camping- good for 9 persons/3 rigs- 14 nights. I will get one.
- Camping is allowed in designated areas.
- Dogs are not permitted.
- Every rig rig should have a portable toilet system.
- There is the option of camping just outside of the park boundary and doing day-trips, but that would limit your range into the area.
- No permit needed for day trips, if you camp outside the boundary (on BLM land).

I would like to spend 3-4 nights in the Maze, allowing time for exploration, pictures and day hikes. From there I would head south via Hite Marina to pavement Hwy 95 to meet the Copper State Cruisers (from Phoenix) on Saturday (possibly Blanding) for a few days of wheeling before Cruise Moab. A fellow from New York posted above - sounds like he will be there too

The Maze is where the film 127 hours was shot and where Butch Cassidy hid out.

We would have explored canyonlands, but the no dogs thing kept us out :frown:. Not that I'm complaining about all the other places we could go near there...

No CM2012 for me though.

Am considering it

Any word on how things are looking for you this year?

Been reading trail descriptions, trying to decide what to run this time around. If they do the Kokopelli double overnight run again I think I'll try to get in on that one. Conversely, if there are a few of the group heading down early I'd be into exploring somewhere for a couple days. Probably won't be going down early enough to get into the Maze with you, Glenn. So much area to explore, so little time :-(

Glenn or Drew (or others who have run a good selection), what do you recommend for excellent scenery/arches? I've done Poison Spider, Hell's Revenge, and Elephant Hill. I may even take a day off to do some hiking in Arches Natn'l Park.

If you do Kokopelli, do not pass up the Top of the world trail. Breathtaking.

The steep stepped hill heading toward the Hide Away was a memorable part of our trip, it was somewhere heading down into the valley near La Salle Mountain. We also froze our balls off too.

Yes. Lance created so much (ahem) moisture in his truck that night the doors were frozen shut the next morning...
