In the past few months, when I pressed the button to turn on the cruise control, sometimes it would come on and sometimes it would not. The last time it came on (4 weeks ago), I was able to set the speed but the stick would not work to change the speed, which was a new twist. I'm sure if I try it today it will work but then again, maybe it won't. I have several road trips soon and I'd like to have it repaired for them.

Thoughts on what the issue is?

what dtc are stored on your computer?

When mine failed (spectacularly… it began actuating the horn after a while) I replaced the clockspring and good to go. Worth investigating. From my research at the time, it didn’t seem that the stalk itself was a super common failure item.

If I'm understanding you correctly, I've not added/edited any codes on the computer. The vehicle is stock.
Dtc are the diagnostic codes registered on the various computer modules when something is awry

This is what happens when you've been crazy busy coaching two basketball teams and then become sick the day after tournament. I'll use my device and see what's on there. Thank you.

Most likely it is the clock-spring inside the steering column. When mine quit working, that was the cause and the dealer replaced it for about $175 with labor.

Another good piece of info. I'll consider it could also be this and budget for the repair in a month or two.

Your center diff lock (CDL) light isn't flashing is it? If the CDL doesn't initialize properly it also disables the cruise control.
