Cross Boarder shopping for a 100 LC (1 Viewer)

Hello everyone, well I have finally stop lurking and deside to post a few questions. I am looking for a 98 100 series LC and have a few questions the board might be of assistance.
I live in Toronto, On.

!. Cross boarder shopping, how easy or difficult?

2. Driving the vehicle back: re insurance, plates, permits, customs ect.

3. Lastly: What state or region (if one wants a good selection and best prospects) should I concentrate my search.

do some searches on importing and canada. there is a great deal of detail on this available. It is not as hard as it looks.

I am Canadian . I imported a '97 a few years back ... bought it in Houston and drove it back thru the Peace Bridge crossing . Drove it down to Niagara , where my parents live and spent Xmas with them before driving it up here to the Great White North ...

A bunch of us here have contributed to 'import/export' threads , and though we could rhyme off some of the info by heart , it is best if you try the 'search' feature fore the most accurate and extensive results .

If you have any problems with our quirky search feature here , please don't hesitate to chime back in , and some of us will be glad to fan out and help in the search ...

BTW , how come US 100's ? What about a Lexus LX470 ? Bit too much down there ? Lemme know what those are going for right now , I'll be down in a few months , and would be interested perhaps in checking them out ... shhhh :-X 8) [/glow]

I'd be interested in your research as well - I could see buying a 100 within the next few years for wife and kids and I'll keep the 80. While the US may be an option, I've just been keeping an eye on LX470s in TO.

PS If you want to take it wheeling give me a call - I'm busy showing the local LR's how great Toyota's are!

Hi everyone, thanks for your input.

Tyler there are no 470's available in Ontario as we speak. Also a 470 in my drive way will bring unwanted attention. I don't need that. I gave the LC 80 a great deal of consideration, until I started seeing LC 100 in the blow $20,000 US range. Moreover I am looking for a no salt vehicle with good records.
I found your post about importing into Canada, very informative.
What has being the experience of people searching for LC across states? Presently I looking on cars.com, autotrader.com and ebay. Anyother sources.

Hugh, I want to take it wheeling some, if the wife is not hauling groceries.

Good luck with your search though . I fear , though , that the 100 series might be as high profile as the Lexus in your drive . I'd just insure , and bite whatever happens .. worrying about it will rot your gut .

As far as sites or sources , I have only stuck to EBay ... though if I lived in your demographic I would have my name in the black book of every Lexus dealer with 100 miles - waiting for the heads up from them on a 100 ; try it ...

I've seen a number of 470s advertised recently (autotrader.ca, Lexus dealers, Globe) and expect more as more continue to come off lease. That being said prices for the ones I've seen have been in the C$50K+ range, which is why I ws also considering US options as well.

Call me when you get it - we'll go out with a great group of guys (range of places we go from low risk, lots of sand to good chance of damage trails with long underwater portions!)
