So fun fact. My 460’s nick name is Periwinkle because when I bought her, she smelled like crayons. It’s becoming an inside joke with my wife and I.

So, is it an insulation or adhesive that’s causing it? Texas heat really melts automobiles and their components. Haha. I’d like to figure out what it is and tone it down a bit.

You could probably knock it out quickly with an ozone generator. They'll make the car smell bleachy-fresh and get rid of just about any lingering odor. I use mine in our cars a couple of times a year and have found uses for it around the house too. Just be careful as ozone is an oxidant and harmful to breathe.

I think I know what youre talking about. At first I thought it was only coming from the second row vents but I cant pin it down either!

Ever think about smoking cigars whilst driving?? You'll never notice the crayon smell again.

That’s an interesting idea! So use it and vent the vehicle before using it and all’s good? I don’t mind the smell but on particularly hot days the smell is pretty potent.

Just wish I knew if it was the insulation or adhesive that’s causing it.

Seriously, I enjoy a pipe (tobacco) sometimes when driving in thick traffic or along the coast coming back from Army drill.
I always keep my sunroof open for several days and try to drive with some of the windows down after a smoke. I really enjoy my pipe but I HATE the smell of smoke in my car!! My car never smells of smoke, unless you get in right after I've smoked a bowl.
So to that point, many people don't understand that what one smells is actually a particulate with physical dimensions and size. So on that note, what you may need to do is leave your windows and sunroof open as much as you can, whether driving or not. You need to purge the particulate, let them out.
Interesting note about smelly things, ever notice how very old things (100 year or so) don't smell (well maybe musty)? How collectors will go into very old out-house pits to look for antique treasures? That's because the smelly particulates have dissipated.

I don’t have the option of leaving any windows cracked. We have a bad wasp and yellow jacket problem so I’d like to not have a nest inside. Haha.

Agreed on the old stuff + dissipation.

Ozone is unstable, so it will naturally degrade in 3-4 hours and no longer be hazardous. When I've used it I've hung it from the 2nd row grab handle and cracked that window 1" or so to give it a source of oxygen to convert to ozone. Then let it run for 2-3 hours (it has a timer), let it sit a few more hours, then hold your breath and open all the windows. It's then good to go a few minutes later.

It will totally kill any odor unless it's hidden deep inside your leather seats. Make sure to remove your floor mats and vacuum/clean the car before using it. My GX had been smoked in (and hidden somewhat well so I didn't notice it at the test drive) and the ozone generator has made the smell all but go away. You can also use it on things like old sneakers or really anything with a nasty odor and it will clean it up. If you have a recurring odor source you may need to give it a treatment a few times a year....maybe more, maybe less.

Good stuff! Thanks a ton.
