Speaking of which... How does the bass gasket sit? The seat (brass washer) I can deal with it's the actual gasket (which is brass too) I'm not sure which way it sits. I really can't tell from the manual and since the injectors were rebuilt I can't tell which way they were facing..

Thanks
Wes

The brass washer sits with the open or "dished" face up.

Makes sense.. So the flat part sits against the nozzle and seals. Thanks Moose!

face up when you put it in the head... right, once the injector is screwed into the head that flat side (horse trough) would be flush against the end of the injector nozzle.

88/08 is the changeup date from a 6 bolt to 8 bolt crank...3B and 13BT.

Hey Bruce: Was it the JDM that just got them back to 80? Strange the B/3B/11B/13B and 13B-T engine manual does not even make reference to rotory. Is it a rotory on Darrens sweet soft top 40 series that Sheldon and I saw at the docks last summer?

gb

There are a couple of BJ46's in town (81 and 83 I think) One was/is Darren's. They both have rotary pump 3Bs. Charla's BJ73 is 11/84 and it has the rotary pump as well. I'm sure Darren had at least one other 40 series with the rotary but I can't remember what.

Wayne knows more about the "sweet soft top 40 series" than I do.

I hope one of these fellows has the manual showing the timing adjstment process.?? Thanks in advance!

Hey Moose,
i have the instructions but it is a detailed process, the manual is cheap and you really should have your own copy...

Bruce: For curiosities sake, do the JDM 3B's have a seperate fuel sedimenter and fuel filter like our Cdn inline pump 3B's? Wonder if it was just the JDM market that got rotory 3B's, and if that is the case they must have a different 3B engine manual then the rest of the world as well.

Moose: While the 2L may use the same method why not wait till the correct 3BII manual shows up and be sure? Have you ordered one? We have two coming, though arrival is an unknown. I am phoning En's tomorrow to see where it is coming from.

Greg, not yet. Are you selling one? ENS told me that there was no way to get them (?). I called the local dealer and same story, none in North America. Not too helpful.

I think I may have to wait, nobody knows anything about this engine. I regret tackling this project prior to figuring this out. 2 weeks now with just the one vehicle at home.

Sure. I'll let you know what I find out tomorrow.

moose, if you still have the old nozzles could you reinstall them, bleed the system and see whats up? or did you have to remove them for a reason,? that might enable you to get it to the shop.

just an idea.

Charla's (and Moose's I think) have the filter/sedimenter in one unit on the PS side of the engine compartment exactly like the NA spec pickups with 2Ls and 2LTs (also rotory)

Usually when the injectors are rebuilt the nozzles are swapped with new ones. Reinstalling the old ones would be like rebuilding them all over again (not a backyard project).

Yeah, the old nozzles are shot, though I do have them. The "needle" piston will barely move up and down in the bore...talk about sticky.

Hi Moose. Phoned Ens. The manual is not showing on the system yet, so they figure from Japan. He is going to call every day, see when it shows in the system and let us know. Good thing is it does not show "unavailable", just back ordered.

Thanks Greg, my VISA card is standing by....I also have a Max Ellery manual coming from Mississauga. It covers the 2L rotary pump, may be helpful.

A technician in Australia told me that the setting on my pump should be 1mm at TDC, measured with the proper dial indicator through the timing hole. A VW mechanic in Nanaimo apparantly has the tools for this (VW use Bosch VE pumps as well)

I am driving from ottawa to calgary, then vancouver in a couple weeks. The last time I was in calgary I noticed a bit of black smoke. I thought I would get my compression and injectors tested to see what the problem was since the cruiser (bj60) shouldn't be smoking at 1100m.

I have since decided to forget about the compression since I can't do anything about it and would rather not know if it is bad. At idle when I put my hand in front of the blowby tube, the exhaust coming out has about as much pressure as I can blow with my mouth.

I was still planning on having the injectors tested & rebuilt if need be but this thread has turned me off a little.

I was able to get from Regina to Calgary on one tank before if that gives anybody an idea of the mileage I get. I think thats about 750km on an 96L tank which i probably ran down to about 80L or so.
