So I got my brand new refurbed injectors from MAF and had all weekend to put them in.

Got the intake off and started in on the fuel rail this am...

unplugged all the injectors to # 6 when that plug crumbled inside because it was so coroded.

Well, I don't know even if Toyota sells plugs by themselves, but this is my DD and it's dead in the water until I get a plug on that works.

Anyone in South Houston or Houston have an old harness or a spare plug?

Any other suggestions...

Replacement connectors can be obtained. That does not help you today but at least they are available. Get the 5 digit number moulded into the connector near the release latch. are the wires intact?

C-Dan, are the injectors the same as used on some other Toyota vehicles. If so he may be able to get one at a junk yard today, until he can he do a better repair?

There is more than one type of injector connector used by Toyota. Unfortunately there is no cross-reference guide, that is why the number is so important. I'm certain that the 1FZ shares it's connector with some other vehicles but I have not spent the research time due to the large ammount of time it would take to do so. Of course the easy way would be to look up the injector so see what all it fits but since the 1FZ injector is specific to that engine that process won't work.

Thanks C-dan...

Yes the wires are fine, just the plug is corroded. Do you know if it will come with the pins that hold the wires inside the plug, or do I need to try and clean those up to re-use in the new plug?

#11153 E24 Brown Color

The latch on some of the other connectors broke, is this a big deal? They seemed to be on pretty snug without the clip... I think including the one that crumbled, 3 other clasps broke.

I would replace all the broken ones and perhaps all 6.

To turn that moulded number into a part number you add 90980- to the front, 90980-11153.

Mike Calvert Toyota shows 7 in stock.

EDIT: The portion of the connector that retains the terminals will come with the connector. The actual metal terminals are part of a "repair splice".

Thanks Dan... will get them first thing in the AM.

Do call them first to verify the on-hand before you head over as it is possible that they are a special order or the shelf count could be off. The database I accessesd is only as good as the information they provided to that base. The update date was yesterday.

Cdan, as I plan on doing injector service sometime and with my luck, how much is it for a set of the plugs?
Can I tell what the number is without removing the intake chamber and pulling an injector?
Do you just cut the wire to the injector plug and use a electrical connector to splice it to the wire?

You would have the same connector. I do not have a price disc at home so I can't quote it now but I would guess in the 5-6 dollar range each, that is a typical connector price. You DO NOT cut the wires unless you are replacing them as well. The connector bodies are bare and the wires or repair splices are serviced loose. With Toyota you replace the connector bodies and wires independently as required. Individual splices are also in the 5-6 dollar range so It can get expensive when you are dealing with a large connector with multiple wires. Wire splices include the metal terminal end and about 6 inches of wire. They are not "color coded" and as such will be a generic insulation so care must be excercised to get them back in the correct cavities.

Do you have a pic of what they look like?
I don't under stand how the system works.
Is it like your 7 pin mod where you pull the pin out of the plug?
Or is it like my corroded plug to the rear diff lock switch, where the wire is sealed into the plug?

I would have to actually look at to describe it but there is a release lock and a retainer so you would first un-lock it and then use a terminal pick to release the wire. It is helpful to have a new unlocked connector in front of you before you proceed so that you can see how it works.

Kurt, what Dan is saying that the replacement connector housing is sold empty, no pins, no wires.

You need to remove the pins with wiring from your existing broken connector and insert them into the new replacement connector.

If you also need to repair broken pins then you need to seperatly order the pins with wiring already attached. You then insert the new pins into your existing or replacement connector and then splice the wire end into your existing wiring harness.

Dan-

I will sure need one set of splicers... are they generic or is it a special # for the pins for these plugs?

Thanks.

Sounds like it would be easier to source a few used ones from the boneyard.

Dan was able to source me a splice-in replacement connector for one of the knock sensor connectors that I broke. It came with wires that simply needed to be soldered to the old ones. It came from a truck application IIRC. Same connector. Just cheaper :).

Dan is the man.

Now THAT is service. I dare you guys to find anyone else who will help you like that. Not to hijack this thread, but this is a freakin' weird part to have fail in the first place, then to have some guy out in Albuquerque tell you on Sunday where you can find it tomorrow AM Monday just down the highway is amazing. Dan, you rock.

Jim

Splices are specific to the connector in question. My wire harness repair book is in the office so I can't tell you the part number for the specific splice required.

Thank you Jim, you are too kind............... :o

Cdan has saved the day once again...

I went to the dealer who only had 2 of the claimed 7 plugs in stock and the parts manager was clueless as to the repair splices needed. He kept trying to sell me a complete harness for $400+.

Thanks Dan for all your help.

Hopefully I can get it all together by Wednesday night.

Pictures to come of the adventure.
