I nominate this thread for MHTOTW! (most helpful thread of the week for all of you who weren't studying your IH8MUD acronyms!)... this is a forum at it's best...

This post is why I didn't remove and clean the injectors a year or so ago.

Someone said that it might not be a good idea to remove the injectors as the wires get brittle and brake. That person must not known that you could replace the corroded parts as he bought the $$$ harnes.

Looking at the work to fix all the wires that are corroded. I think getting on vehicle injector cleaner might be the way to go on an older 80.

Now that I have had time to calm down with the repair slices in hand and new plugs coming tomorrow thanks to Cdan, it really isn't that much extra work, and that injector will probably work a lot better with the new pins. If this wasn't my DD it wouldn't have been such an inconvenience...

The wires themselves were still plyable, not brittle. What hardened on mine was a little o-ring type insulator attached to the wire and pin that fills the area where the pin goes into the plug. They harden and shrink... I think that's how liquid got into the plug.

I am pulling the other pins out tomorrow to see what condition they are in as well before I put it all back together... I should have time to post pics with a write up this weekend... assuming it starts and runs after I put everything back... :frown:

In any case it proabably is a good idea to have a spare plug or two and some repair splices before you dig into it. Pretty cheap investment, and if you end up not using it, pass it on to the next IH8MUD member who is brave enough to attempt it.

UPS will be picking up the connectors in about an hour....;)
