Well I made ugly holes in the hood today -

Covered them up with a cowl induction scoop from Summit

Hope this allows more of the hot air buildup under hood out -

Running Canyon de Chelly this weekend - we will see...

the refelction on the front corner is a bit bright -

id prefer the ugly holes.....cover em up with a sticker or somthing.

The holes are under the scoop = air sucked in by radiator fan - then let out through the holes in the hood -

Yep, the expense factor was a biggieeee - I looked at different louvers but did not really like what I saw - the scoop does not look as bad as the pictures - once it gets painted it will not look that bad - but it is function over form......the rig is built to go not to show and if this finally allieviates some of the heat - so be it.

Towing in the spring and summer I can not run the a/c - so hopefully this will cool it enough. Last year I took the bottom protector plate off under the radiator and she cooled down but I hate wheelin without protection.

I don't think it looks that bad... just a little strange on a 60. Hey, if it works it works.

I run that louver in my 62 hood. I did it about 2 years ago. They work OK but probably could have used something twice the size.

Retracable light...

Waggoner5,

Is that one of those retracable uderhood lights that use a magnet to attach? If so, where did you pick it up?

Thanks!

jeep cherokee's have them too, look 90-95 iirc

What about facing the hood scoop forward to cram more air into the underhood area (and out the bottom) in effect air cooling the motor and helping move more hot air out?

Cuz I would think that hot air blasting away at the windshield would end up coming in the windows. Or maybe it would get diluted enough to not be a problem.

What about adding a 60-style vent on both sides? Only works for diesels and 62s, but... might help?

Waggoner - I remember seeing that rig for sale one time - right? - 502 Merc? that is just way sweet!

Yep the holes I cut are big and hopefully will increase the flow so that the windows will be up and the AC blasting -

I have a roll-up light under my hood outa a Chevy -

different subject, if you live in a year round warm climate do you really need that thick matt on the bottom of the 60's hood. or is it more for sound dampening?

Interesting link - nice work -

I do not have the pad - the PO ripped it out.......probably sound insulation -

What Are You Doing To My Truck?

Hey Jeff,
Whaztup with the rig? Heating problems? Did you swap the 350 for a rat motor?
I never had any problems with heat, on or off road.

Hood insulation

Yes, I ripped it out because it had, literally, a mouse nest up underneath the hood, in the insulation! Besides, how could I stick all those decals on the underside of the hood with a pad in place?
