Ticks

Hi guys,
Found my little friend tonight. Not sure if it was from yard work today or from the camping, but check yourself to be sure

yep, me too, tiny little guy, smallest tick i've ever seen. About the size of a freckle. my buddy had two on his leg.

I'm pretty sure running through that many water crossings (8-10?) in one weekend has fried my starter. It now hesitates when I crank for about a full second before I hear the starter turn. Just a word of warning, that snorkels don't solve everything.

Andy,
Looks like you guys had a blast once again. Hopefully make it to GSMTR this year....hopefully!

Same thing here. Near the end of the trail I was having to bang on my starter with a rock to get going. Jeesus, ticks, starter problems, etc what's next...herpes?

I suppose that all depends on what you guys were doing around the campfire.

looks like mine is doing the same. Do I have to replace the starter or is there a rebuild kit?

I bought a new one, but plan on rebuilding the old one as a spare (at a cost of $30 core charge). Mine still works, but it sometimes takes 2 or 3 cranks of the key to engage. Other times it cranks right up.

dropped my starter off at a shop today. old guy called me back later and said exactly this..."do you drive your truck in water a lot"?
i started laughing. $100 for a rebuild oem isn't bad imo.

Here's what my starter looked like. Not to mention the palm-full of corroded material that fell out. From what I hear, you can rebuild for about $10 worth of replacement contacts and then you emery cloth the copper disc. [edit, mine had 115,000 miles on it and I'd guess some of the corrosion was from previous adventures in H2O]

I did this with a starter for a 3.4 4Runner, worked great! It was however just high miles, no water damage as far as i know. Not sure what effect this may have on bearing, clutch, so forth.
