We have an chance to protect a place we all love and enjoy. As many of you know a large section of The Cove ( 7000+ acres) was recently purchased by a logging company. Shortly after gates where put up on the top entrance roads ( Pryor ridge rd). Our fears where that the roads at the bottom would get gated or a hunting club would get a lease on the land and try to shut us out. ( this has happened before nearby) A lease agreement and a contract have been written up now we need people to sign on. The cost is $120. Per year and we need 250 people to make it work at that price. Money can be sent in via PayPal to shawnparson78@yahoo.com. I am not in charge of this but will try to answer any questions you may have.

Andy,
Do you know if all stipulations have been agreed to (or even identified) yet? Such as year round access or specified closure days? Insurance rider purchase in addition to lease cost? Lock/access management (i.e., a subset of us would have access to keys)? Criteria for land owner to assess renewal of lease (care of property and behavior criteria while on property)?

I think it is a great opportunity, but I suspect that there are a number of complications that would need to faced so I may be asking questions too early in the process.

Thanks

Does this control access to Coppinger Cove rd or Greentown rd or road to church access?

FWIW I would not pay $120/year for access to Pryor Ridge Rd. Keep in mind that Coal Creek (as an example) is $88/year and you get 72,000 acres and miles and miles and miles of trail. $120 for access to just that area around Pryor Ridge seems steep. But if it was to encompass the entire Cove run from bottom to top then it might be worth it.

Coppinger cove rd and Burketts Chapel rd (the one that goes to the church) are county roads and will not be blocked. The greentown entrance is on private property. Where this lease comes in to play is when you leave the main roads, then you are on the land in question. The area in question goes from just north of the wide ford to very near greentown. As far as the cost and its worth thats up to you. i personally dont see any way to compair the cove to coal creek at any price.

Andy is the email above a good person to contact with these questions?
Yes anyone can email or call shawn about this. His # 931-235-9917

What I was trying to say was more so what I would expect for $120/year. For me, who has access to so many other places and at cheaper prices, I personally would not pay that much for only protected access to Pryor Ridge. If so I would expect trail creation, maintenance, etc. Keep in mind the Cove doesn't have the fondest attached to me like so many others like yourself. But I think it sounds more like price gouging. At 250 persons per $120/year that is $30,000. For that kind of cash I personally would expect a lot in return.

Split the cost of the key between several people??

Andy do you think there is enough interest to get 250 people to pay?

I really liked my trip up there and I plan on going out there as many times as I can. I might be willing to pay of I knew there was enough interest to make it work.

last time i checked we were had around 200 so yea i think theres some interest just not quit enough yet.

I'll bite & buy a key. It's worth it to me. What period of time would the initial lease cover and what are the options to renew the lease toward the end of that period? (is this posted earlier in this thread? Currently on my phone typing this..)

I know several others from NC, AL, and TN that would be up for it as well. We've always gone with one of a few locals and covered new trails each time we went. I personally enjoy the cove as much as I did Tellico and I want to be part of protecting it, as well as access to it.

I'm willing to chip in as well....I've spent more time out there in the cove Probally more than anywhere else 4*4.

Any discussion as to the clubs who access that area working some kind of deal with the property owner or owners...I assume maybe this old news?

I would be willing to split a key with some of the folks from Atlanta. I love wheeling at the cove

Count me in Atlanta Style any amount$$$, work days and cleanups too!

We still need members on the lease and time is running out. If you have any interest in keeping this place open now is the time to act!
