Hey Rich,

Bad luck, but hopefully they have nailed the diagnosis and you will be up and running at 110% again in no time.

Good luck with the recovery.

Back in hospital. Feeling aweful again. The new dr is saying tic bite. Not lime disease but anaplasmosis? Running more blood work to confirm which disease Wtf.....
Cant win....

So im really at a loss for any good words....i started back in the shop on sunday doing housekeeping stuff to get ready for bumper work and slowly started feeling very tired and a little sore. And noticed a huge lack of strength. Figured it was cause i have been down the past week and a half and pushed through for another hour or so and ended up going inside extremely tired and uncomfortable.
Monday i woke up felt like i got run over and more tired and run down than i have EVER felt in my life. Im never sick. I feel absolutely smoked with 0 energy. Everything is an effort. I went back in for blood work today and now their saying it might be Lyme disease and it might have been too early to show the last time they tested..so their going to test again and for other things..WTF! This is the last thing i need right now honestly. Ive busted my ass the last 2-1/2 years working full time in my garage AFTER coming home from my FULL TIME DAY JOB every day and full days on weekends prepping to go out on my own.. now its been not even 3 months into finaly working for myself and this happens.. .. feeling extremely frustrated ,upset and wondering how long my body is gonna feel like this. And what the F i have?? I have moments were i feel ok and then it rolls right on in again... so at the times i feel better im gonna try to do work cause i have too! Here is a pic of all the latches and buttons im experimenting with to come up with a nice clean one handed swingout operation. And for those that like strength ratings one of my rotary latches is rated to 3400 lbs! 4000 lbs if you use the additional strengthening plate! The dimpled piece is stainless and what i use when i make ladders. The reason i use stainless is you can leave it bare or paint it and when it scratches from use it wont rust and look like shat. Ive also painted it then run a wheel across the tops of the dimples to reveal little stainless rings that looks awesome!
I really hope what ever this is is gone soon! Im ready to build!!! But in the meantime ill try to push through and get out what i can.. sorry again to those waiting and thanks for the support.

I have not seen that catalog... i would only ever consider a two stage latch. And ones with what i think is appropriate length of material at engagement points. Meaning longer pull to disengage. For example and this is my honest opinion. Just feedback. The latch that ARB builds and uses for their swingouts functions nicely! But the moment of shear or when the latch breaks free from engagement is way too short. And its a single stage. Id be worried if any dirt got in there it could shorten engagement even more and could pop open over a hard bump. Maybe they have addressed this but its on a customer of mines 200 series rear bumper that is coming in for a new custom rear bumper once i get out the 80 series rears that i have to build. His arb bent. And rotted.
The latch im more than likely going with fits right inside a 2x3x.120wall tube perfectly. Its made in America and has stainless springs and highwaysaftey rated. So all of my components will be concealed within the swing arm and protected. And might have a flush mount thumb button to open.Ill have some sort of backup release and an access cover. To clean/maintain things.

Hey Rich,

Sounds like things are coming along!

Sorry to hear the sickness is sticking with you. Can't imagine how frustrating this must be! I know I'm pumped for a CostaFab rear bumper but taking care of yourself is the first priority. Rest is probably key right now, as well as keeping things as low stress as possible. Hang in there, man!

Rich, You'll appreciate the Eberhard catalog. They build a lot of the parts you see on firetrucks, railcars and ambulances .
One fold out step I bought about 15 years ago was rated to take the approximate load of a 200 lb fireman in full gear in a five foot drop..
Seriously , who rates their stuff like that? Since then the ratings have changed to numbers. Now it's a 2500 load bearing step

Just found this thread and got caught up. Jesus dude.. Get well soon!

I might be interested in a F/R combo when funds are available. I have a couple ideas I'd like to float. Would you prefer in the thread or a PM?

Again, rest up and get well soon!

Lyme is a very politically charged disease that is very difficult to get diagnosed via the approved testing methods. Your chances of getting it diagnosed are greater, if you were recently bitten though. The big insurance companies do not want Lyme to be diagnosed as the treatments get expensive, and they have done a good job of making the testing methods so limited that they almost always returm a negative test result.

Most Dr's are not 'Lyme Literate' and do not go the extra mile to actually get a true diagnosis, often which will require a clinical diagnosis. Unfortunately, if you think Lyme maybe the culprit, you are going to have to get yourself very educated on the subject and find your self a very good lyme literate Dr. Most of those Dr's however will be out of pocket as the insurance companies won't pay them....as I said...very politically charged disease.

Sorry you are dealing with this mate, it's a s*** of a disease, but your chances of killing it are best when caught early.

Thanks Morgan. My wife drove me to my most recent visit as she wanted to talk to the dr. And your right. They had very little answers for her ?'s except im displaying most symptoms of lyme and their treating me accordingly and there's nothing else they can do. And also from my most recent blood work i tested positive for mono. So this explains the exhaustion and being so run down. But at the present moment i still dont know what exactly i have and they have me on Doxycycline for the last two weeks and said for probably another 4 weeks. Ive been reading alot about lyme like you said and i really hope i dont have it but the symptoms are pretty much everything I'm feeling. I hope its just some crazy virus coupled with the mono and goes away soon.
I had so much momentum and good work going from here , the portal and locally. Now im unsure whats gonna happen now. Hopfully i just get better and back at it.. its depressing really. Non of my family or friends get it....(except my wife) their like feeling better yet .can i bring my truck/bike/whatever by...what do ya mean you're still sick. Its annoying and frustrating but They've never seen me sick and dont know how to react i guess...
Im looking for a dr like you said now...

Rich, just some suggestions. Dr. Oz recommends taking vitamin B12, coenzyme Q10, chromium, folate, omega-3 fatty acids, a herb called Rhodiola rosea. See if you can talk to someone along this line that have knowledge of a natural cure-vitamins or herbs. Good luck and hope you get better. Joe

Thanks for the info. I've actually been reading alot about natural medicines and such as I've never liked taking any pharmaceutical drugs/medicine. And like I said before I'm seldom ever sick.
After now loosing 20lbs over the last 4 weeks coupled with the symptoms i now have my doctor is sending my to see an infectious disease specialist tomorrow. So ill see what they say .I just need to get better and back to building...

Thank you again everyone for all the support.
Rich

Thank god! No tic disease. After my appointment with the infectious disease specialist he said he was confident in saying the only thing I have is a bad case of mono coupled with my body not reacting well to the Doxycycline. All my levels are off. Said to stop the Doxycycline and just rest. And no heavy work of any kind due to a risk of rupturing my spleen? Iam starting to feel better just tired and cant wait to get back at it.. soooo bored! Going crazy in the house.
