I went to the local Toyota dealer to have a new key cut off the VIN/passenger door key code. They quoted $109 to have one key cut (key plus one hour of labor). Well, I walked out. So, can a non Toyota affiliated locksmith cut a new key using the door code vs. copying my current (worn) key?

Just as a FYI, I had two extra keys made for my work truck (2017 Ford F250). They were $250.00 (for both).

That’s ridiculous!
I shop with my dealer all the time.
I took them my passenger side door lock.
Showed them the key code and he cut it for me for free.
And made extra for me.

I bought two OEM factory blanks off Amazon for $14 and had a local ACE hardware cut them for $5.

I’m assuming this isn’t for a 60 at that price?

ya that's way high, I would figure about 40 for a Toyota key blank 10 for a non Toyota blank.

the 1 hour is for programing a transponder key and remote, obviously you truck dosnt have that so whoever quoted you may not have realized that or just assumed that it was a newer truck

My local (up valley, AKA Vail) locksmith took my Ebay purchased blank, cut it off of the code from my passenger side cylinder and made two more copies for less than $15.00.

Ragingmatt has what you need.

Ok ,

So here is a 60 / 62 series Key code stamped on the lock cylinder , its very small and a bit obscure , but after some buffing on

a brass wire wheel , The Magnesium housing shines bright and the Key Code K4083 Text Font is legible , The code is ONLY

stamped on the passenger side front door of any toyota that im aware of .

If you haven’t pulled out the lock cylinder, that sounds believable. My dealership told me it would be $65 just to pull the lock cylinder to get the key code. I went home and took the cylinder out myself in a few minutes. Took it back over and they cut two keys for $12, i think.
