I had the bench seat in my 1964 Dodge D100 reupholstered (new padding and covering) less than three years ago for about $300 and my brother and dad have had similar seats redone for similar prices. I just called two upholstery shops getting rough quotes for repadding and recovering the split bench in the 1970 FJ40 and one was $700 and the other $1200. Seems outrageously high to me. What have you guys paid for this recently?

I got the $OR covers for my split bench, about $200 on sale if I recall.

$7 for the hog ring pliers and about $10 for some 1" foam to make the seat a bit higher.

I did it myself and it turned out fine.

I've got a nice set I had redone a few years back in grey pleated cloth, I'm taking out for buckets. I can take some pics if your interested?

By the way, I had the slip on vinyl covers a few years back, they crack when it gets cold.

Fixin ta (a Texas phrase) take mine somewhere to get some custom upholstery with our horse brand. When I get pricing I'll post. Buckets and jump seats.

I was quoted $800 for the front bench, it's just springs so it needed fab of foam and seats. This is from a small local Phoenix area shop, reputable and busy.

I bet you told them that you were restoring a classic. This probably jacked the price to that B.S. figure. I would think that in your location good and reasonable shops would be on every corner.

The last set I had done ( 3 years ago) cost $250 for complete recover, new foam and added lumbar supports. You might try at the local trade schools, they often offer this type of work to help teach their students. The workmanship is good and it is usually at a greatly reduced price. Good Luck!
