I think you still need to answer what you want before someone can give you a range. Big difference in a V8, beat up driver/wheeler and well maintained original with tasteful upgrades.

The market is softer but it seems a lot of sellers haven’t gotten that memo.

In my opinion, the advice that you have received is spot on. The economics of restoring/repairing/modifying these old rigs simply don't dollar out. Even when doing your own labor, the costs of parts escalate such that before long the sunk costs can quite easily exceed the market value. But many of us aren't too terribly bothered by that realism because, I think, part of the lure of these old, slow, stinky rigs is the joy/frustration we get from working on them and keeping them on the road for the next generation. In this regard, owning/maintaining a 40 series is similar to purchasing a boat. :)

How is this for realistic.. from an actual Cruiser shop too.
I want to sell my 75, runs great, just did three +600 mile road trips without issue. Everything works.
$17k I have matching yellow hard top and rear doors.
Will have completely new cooling system put in before sale
Can patch all rust for $4k additional plus panel costs. Can upgrade suspension and add power steering, front disc brakes for additional

The true cost comes after you buy it. Lots of time and blood and more money. :skull::steer:

That’s a heck of a good deal from an exceptional shop with an excellent reputation.

If you're looking for meaningful replies, why be evasive in responding to requests for more of YOUR criteria?
Makes no sense. Nobody is a mind reader.

How big is a circle?

I am not sure what my criteria is right now. However, I understand your point.

40's are so Iconic.
I swore that I would not sell my 80 unless I could replace it with a 40....we shall see....
don't sell the 80 - get the 40 as a side-gig

Well... the 80 is now listed in the classifieds....🤔
