I am looking to become a first time buyer of an FJ 62, however I'm concerned about the rust on the vehicle. Based on pictures, the rust appears to only be located along the gutter lining the edges of the roof (on both sides of the truck). There may be other spots that aren't shown in the pictures. The car is located in CA so I am hoping the rust is limited to this. I know it will depend on the severity of the rust, etc., but can anyone give me a ballpark idea on expenses to repair rust on this type of vehicle?

If the roof has alot of rust it several places and water has leaked inside the cost of repairing the damage and repainting the roof will cost more than 1k. I would avoid a rusty cruiser, I have one and love it but it comes with its own probablems

When I took off my OEM roof rack I found some bad rust spots. It was scary, however I dove into this week. As a novice welder I think its coming along ok. The worst part about the roof is the need to remove the headliner before doing any welding. My headliner is in bad shape and needed to be replaced anyways so I chose not to remove it, and yes there is one burn hole already! If you are able to do the work yourself and enjoy it and have the time then maybe it's a good deal. If you have some pictures of it that would help.

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up purchasing the FJ62 and will take it to a body shop to repair the rust. I got several estimates that put the cost anywhere between $1k - $2.5k. We'll see...

I would maybe buy or borrow a welder and give it a try in repairing the rust on the roof

I purchased the car in San Diego, but I am relocating it to Chicago in the next couple days. Any recommendations for the Chicagoland area?

Couple of different shops in the LA area that specialize in Land Cruisers. Look in some of the forums for recommendations based on where you are specifically located.
