Guys, I am trying to get my PS conversion belt and my AC/WP belt to be the same. I want to run a top cog gold label belt from dayco, as I have on my PS side on my AC side.

Thing is, to match my PS belt, the belt is a 17510 (13A1295), the width is just under 1/2" and sits lower in the pulley. I go buy the same belt style for the AC side and the PN is 22500. I get to the auto parts store, see the two and the AC belt is a bit over .625 (17mm) which I believe is correct Toyota size width. That is alot bigger than my PS conversion belt.

Can you guys tell me some things:
1. Should the belt be sticking above the pulley edge a bit or be flush with it? As of now, both my belts are below pulley (AC one is not stock I believe)
2. The correct dims for the width for AC/WP belt (I have the PN for the items from Toyota) just need the dims. So I can confirm what is wrong/right
3. Does it hurt to have a smaller belt as I have right now on the PS side?

Thank you

A stock 77 FJ40 did not have AC, so do you mean Alternator? If you mean AC, all answers depend on what type of AC system was installed.

Your belts should stick above the edge of the pulley a bit. I think it’s more important that they ride along and angled edges and not along the bottom edge, but could be wrong.

The alt belt is 17mm x 1275mm if i see it right on toyodiy. The air pump belt is 17mm x 1105mm.

I ran a narrower belt on my PS conversion for a few years until I found a Volvo pulley that was wider and now I run the wider belt. Dont put enough time/miles on it to know if it makes a difference.

Subzali, thank you for the response! Yea, I meant Alternator. That being said, you are providing me with what I want. In regards to the PS unit, what pulley did you take off a volvo? I want to be able to run both 17mm belts on both my alternator and PS pulley.

Thanks

My power steering uses a Saginaw pump mounted above the smog pump. It uses a press on pulley. A Volvo 240 I think uses a Saginaw too but has a wide pulley that bolts to a hub that is pressed on the pump shaft. So my belt is extra long and goes over the power steering pump and the smog pump.

I did this conversion years ago, this look like a thin pulley?

does your alternator have a CAST IRON Land Cruiser Pully on it

or

a stamped sheet metal , TOYOTA Car pully on it ?

i studied your image of it above for a bit , can see a rounded beveled edge maybe , suggetsing its the wrong pully for the thread topic goal you have outlined ?

let me know about this tech fact when you can .

if indeed you have a Thinner stamped sheet-metal TOYOTA car Pulley installed on your NipponDenso alternator ...........

i have a NOS OEM Parts correction Solution for you you will want to see .....

feel free to PM me as well

thanks matt

Matt, see attached pics, this definitely is a casted part, but looks narrow, which is odd. I have ran this set up on my truck for almost 15 years and now I am looking to replace belts and get the belts all the same

ok ,

well ................

i just got my first shipment of NOS OEM Land Cruiser cast iron pulleys in friday from JAPAN , they spec out perfect and we can use for refrence for now to guage if you have the correct V groove Pully or not ?

i have seen TOYOTA car pulleys cast iron before too , fyi ..........

i will also post my Parts dept dealership fast moving parts cataloger land Cruiser drive belts pages too .........

it has all the MUST HAVE 411 , like pro date splits etc .......

all drive belt oem part #'s too , simply put the Guide book to Capture Unicorns alive :D

stand by ...

ok

- correct iD long point to long point is : 17mm exactly

- outside OD of radius of pully is : 82mm exactly

- ID of bore hole pulley shaft , : 17mm exactly

i have a original ; 27020-60110 early FJ40 / FJ60 Alternatort and it matcheds up 100%

- my research last night shed light that this particular Land Cruiser Pulley

was used from 1969-9/87 on 99% of all F and 2F engines , and some Diesels too ..............

so if anyone got slammed by a bad aftermarket universal application alternator like NAPA and auto zone sells ..................

well , im Not even gonna get into what iv seen at my shop come in
ROCK AUTO boxes ....🤔

monkey business at a whole new level .!

Well here we go:
OD: 74.5mm
Overall width: 22.5mm
V belt recess width: 12.5mm
Pulley nut id: 12.5mm

Looks like I have non stock item or I have a different alternator. Strange.

The PN of my alternator is 14540 world class remanufactured made in japan

Any input here?
