I also posted this in the tire area. But i know a bunch of you guys are running the ST Maxx and a few the STT Pro. I will be getting a set of one of the two in the next few days. Mostly i wanted to know how well the ST Maxx does in mud. Is it acceptable or pitiful. And on the flip side how does the STT Pro do day to day on the street? Any idea of overall life? Can you get 40-50,000 miles out of them or is it looking like a 30,000 mile tire?

Thanks guys. in normal fashion i am over thinking things.

PS the ST Maxx are $1050 for a set of 5 mounted, balanced alignment out the door. The STT Pro are $1250.

We have 3 sets of st max between Sam and myself. Had a new set of them on the 55, friend of sam's calls 1 nite and is stuck bad in some gumboee type slop. I was able to get to him but couldn't get him out, called another guy with a locked ford pu and he was able to get him. I didn't need help but wondered a few times. Didn't clean out very well but enough to keep going. Only time I've had them in really nasty stuff. Have had phenomenal luck with them in the snow, very good. I've got about 15000 miles on the ones on my pu and don't hardly show any wear, its pretty light weight though. Sam has about 30,000 on them on his pu and about wore out(600hp at wheels) is hard on things
On my 40 I have a set of stt pro's. only about 1800 miles on them and haven't had them in anything nasty yet but I'm sure they will clean out much better than the maxx's. They drive very well, 65 mph and hands off the wheel(not far away though) on a 40 is testament to the handling of them or more likely admittance of my stupidity. Enough ramblin, Good luck on your choice, Ron waiting to see other reports also

That is actually a prerequisite for Land Cruiser ownership!!
I don't think you'll go wrong with either tire. I've run the ST maxx for almost 20k, and they seem to have plenty of tread left. I'm on the 255/85/16, because the expedition portal article said skinny was best on rock, but aren't as good in sand. I think these tires have really performed beautifully in almost every condition. I would buy them again if I could do it over. I feel like there would have been better tires for the sand dunes...sorry you missed them.
