How is this happening?

I tore out the interior yesterday and found this. The passenger floorboard was pretty wet from the coolant. I am assuming there is a hose running through the firewall that is to blame for this mofo. Any thoughts?

HEATER CORE :bang:

It's the heater core leaking. No hoses inside the cabin. Heater hoses attach at the firewall. You're going to have to remove the heater box and replace or fix the core.

#26 in the pic.

That's a bummer. I will be tearing into the dash later this weekend and checking things out. Thanks!

Yeah, that stinks. Sorry man but they are right.

Incidentally, price of a new heater core will floor you (no pun) ... You may want to source a good used one and clean and flush it, or take it to a rad shop before you remove your old one. Just my .00002 where's the cent symbol on the keyboard ??

Does anyone know the price of a new (Toyota brand) heater core? (I'll be sure to be sitting down when the answer is posted.)

You are right; there is no cents symbol on the keyboard anymore. It used to be shift of 6 or something . . .

Will I neccesarily need a new heater core? Can't I just fix the leak? It may be leaking from one of the hoses.

Either way, the truck came with a spare heater core. Hopefully one of them is repairable.

Edit: Just read through a couple of the replacement threads. You guys should try replacing a heater core in an A4. The cruiser looks like a cake walk. :)

New core is North of 3 bills... Really. SOR wants $359 .... Merry Christmas.

Yeah, if the old core is repairable, that's fine. But I'd take it to a Radiator shop to get it pressure tested, if you don't have a way to test it yourself. I wouldn't want to have to take it out twice.

Came with a spare heater? Sounds like the PO knew it was bad. It is a serious pain in the ass to swap the heater core. Defiantly get your "spare" cleaned and pressure tested before you do the install. That is a job you only want to do once.

Dynosoar:zilla:

I bought a heater core from JT Outfitters for about $120. It dropped right in. I think it's aluminum compared to the OEM copper one, though.

I only replaced mine because I was redoing the wiring and insulation under the dash and I didn't want to get under there for another 20 years. Otherwise, the heater core is in great shape. Let me know if you want it.

Yep-That's too bad. Do what ever you need to do to start with a good core and new "o" rings for the pipes. Ducks had quite a time with his if I remember correctly.
