Douche...

He needs all that electronic s*** to troubleshoot and fix all the electronic s*** on his lame excuse for a car. Good luck getting 100 miles away from PepBoys or Vatozone in that thing!

I am reading the DRC thread on ExPo right now and this guy and his Envoy s*** makes me want to puke!! I have spent 30yrs bouncing around BFE Nevada in a fullsize Ford truck with 150K on the odometers at least and never needed or wanted almost any of this crap. He has no "real" tools or parts, not even a serp belt or spare fluids. I would hate to have to wheel with this guy.

Is there no scenery whatsoever on his trips? He might as well limo-tint the inside of the windows and watch Dora the Explorer all the way while getting turn by turn from his GPS.

What's the DRC thread?

ahh, that was a really cool thread. I didn't get to far into it, and mostly just ogled the crap out of the 70-series.
That's my kind of expedition build- the focus is a simple, field-servicable, and reliable rig that can hold its own and carry spares. I fear we get lost in the accesories; a good ground-tent will do exactly what is needed - keep out rain and bugs, carefully maintained coolers never fail, and if longevity is an issue dry food. Shoot, I should start a thread in Campfire Cuisine on home-dehydrating, my old Scoutmaster and I had a running competition to see just how lightweight we could make a four-course meal, and I'd love to hear similar imput from others here in the community.

Let's turn this into a discussion, then:
Clearly Roadie's overloaded to the gills, with an eye to simplicity, what would you carry for a week-long cross-country offroad trip?

Me:
Tools:
Axe, shovel, hi-lift, sockets, soldering iron and electrical repair kit (totally optional, but it's handy to offer my skillz with wire to others in my convoy.) Box wrenches, tarp, tow straps, Paracord, flash-lights. Channel-locks, clamps, Kliens, wire-strippers, hammer.

Spares: radiator/heater hoses, V-belts, water pump, fuel pump, air cleaner, Clutch master and slave, oil, antifreeze, ATF, brake fluid, brake-line torniquets, wheel bearings, fan clutch, nuts and bolts, bulbs/LED pigtails.

Kitchen: Steel oil catch-pans. (can be used for repairs, mostly to protect the ground from DO ash. 2 12" Dutch Ovens, 1 8" DO, and 1 14" DO. Charcoal chimneys, coal tongs, welding gloves, Coleman stove, roll-up table. Pots, pans, washbins, soap, cutlery. Water filter, drommedary bags, lantern, camp fuel, spoons, spatulas, plates, towels, paper-towels. Cooler/(fridge for you non-college budgeted high-rollers.) Trash bags, soap, spice-kit, salt-cellar, Zippo.

Electronic: GPS, Camera, Zune, Phone, CB, HAM (when I get my license)

Other: First-aid kit, knife, compass, revolver and ammo. Maps and Thomas Road Atlas, electrolyte tabs, sunglasses, field glasses, hat, chap-stick, goop, Glenlivet.

Personal: Toiletries, canteen clothes, jacket, sleeping bag, pad, tarp, tent, Fishing pole and tackle, I'd say hat, but my Fedora's always aboard The Mule.

Food: hard to say for sure, because menus will never be static, but I'll always keep aroud:
Tea (I don't care for coffee), flour, baking powder, baking soda, yeast, molasses, jerky, lard.
Kinda oddball, but if we're ever shy of provisions, biscuits are never far from had, and making bread on occasion is never inapropriate.

What about you guys, what would you do?
Keep in mind, this is mostly whatever I could think up off the top of my head, suggestions are always welcome. For a more thorough list, I'll see if I can dig up my actionpacker thread in the Camping section.

He's going to need all of that stuff when he finds himself stuck in a less-than-capable vehicle. All of this stuff would be fine if it was in a truck that was actually built for off road use - albeit heavy as all get out.
