My buddy's mom owned one of those (or the equivalent under a different brand). Rolled it on the highway- broken neck (2 places), spine, some ribs, crushed a shoulder. Wore her seatbelt. Currently in a halo.

That said, that truck is setup beyond belief. I can't believe he carries all that stuff with him. (Makes me wonder where the gun is).

I'll probably get stomped on but I think that is absolutely ridiculous, and not in a good way. I can imagine no reasonable scenario where all that crap needs to carted around. I've done a lot of wheeling in the last 30 years, from southern california to north east maine, utah to texas, and I have NEVER felt or seen the necessity for all that crap. Even less so in this day and age.

wow. very detailed write-up, much like the ones at zombie squad. would like to see an example of the camp set-up, as we do here at Mud.

coulda bought an 80 n done much fewer mods to get same performance....

frig battery in passenger compartment??

one of the 60 Mudders fabbed a tube that follows dash lines to mount all his electro-whiz bang gadgets, much cleaner install.

some folks just can't never get rid of their pocket protectors.

exuse suki for the redundant shoulda-been-quoted's. building a post count apparently....

i'm glad suki got the mud salute figured out, now let's watch for suitibility.

What happened to less is more?

I do like how he presented everything with clear pictures and markup, but damn... he has one of everything in the back of that horribly overloaded Envoy. Perhaps he should have started with a 1 ton truck of some kind ;)

He can throw all the crap on it, in it, and under it he wants, at the end of the day it is still a GMC Envoy designed for light off road usage, mostly as a family hauler, and contrary to the rear window sticker, highly doubtful it will ever get within spitting distance of the rubicon.

In short, a dress and lipstick on a pig.

pretty complete load of eqpt

interestingly, I came to realize I also have just about most of that in one form or another. Not the weird stuff admittedly. But I don't carry it all at once...

never mind the truck, it's the gizmos that are interesting here.

I agree with the less is more camp. I wonder how much his rig weighs. I mean he had 3 different stoves in there. that just seems like over the top redundancy to me. at this point I feel like he should just buy an rv, it'd make more sense.

If the guy enjoys himself, who am I to judge?
His approach and mine are pretty different. He seems to have a tool/device for just about any situation.

Far out, that thing is loaded.
All that stuff must weigh heaps. What the hell has he got digital vernier calipers for?! I'll admit it is easy to store stuff away in my cruiser for "just in case" times, but once in a while i go through and take out the things which i've never used while being away. Stuff like tools you can streamline down to just the relevant common sizes you need for your specific vehicle. You have to be sensible. The more **** your storing, that you hardly use, means theres less room for beer. ;p

and at some point, the weight of what you are hauling starts to contribute to failures vs. helping you fix failures. IMO.

Still... the guy has pluck and clearly enjoys what he does, which is good, right?

*My attention was drawn particularly to the wide assortment of fire-starting devices. The guy must have 15 different ways to start a fire, in 10 different places on the vehicle. That would be overkill for my uses.

haha, ya I've had some of my normal friends get confused as to why, at all times, I have bic lighters placed around my truck as well as a few packs of matches and other emergency gear(clif bars, survival blanket, headlamp, etc...) they'd really misunderstand this guy. I'm glad that he enjoys it, but I feel like he should invest in more multipurpose items that can save space and weight. and if they're multipurpose enough they can still fall into the cool gadget category that you know he loves.

I, for one, will never go outside without my laptop and webcam again.

^ lols.

cuz otherwise, you'd be horribly unprepared, yes?

Did a good bit of camping and wheeling last summer. My I only regret is that none of it was documented. Plan on righting some wrongs this summer.
