Question for you guys:

My wife and I are planning on an Exodus from Jackson in the next year or so, and are seriously considering building in Madison or Ridgeland.

Any idea what a rough sq/ft cost would be for something with nice quality? I had heard around $125 sq/ft, but wasn't even sure if that was too high or low.

Todd, you just went through this. Does that sound right?

Madison is great. We escaped Belhaven over 20 years back before the kids started to school; C loved her 1940's house there so I drafted plans for her to have the same feel in a larger space w/ similar architectural details. You planning to do any of the build yerownself? That can have a real impact on the costs in the finishing elements. It's been too long ago for ours to be a fair comparison, but I was able to fine a great contractor who was open to me doing some of the work and stopped his part when I said - good enough, we'll take it from here. Ya just need a wife who'll endure the extra time of that path ....

Sorta the same experience w/ a couple of old wagons we had - but the same turbo 5cyl in Mo's 82 300CD rocked- go figure

It's a million mile motor but its going to take you a while to get there. I'd bet a fuel system flush and boil out the tank and she would go. The bunk arrangement kinda stinks tho

A lot of how the om617 acts has to do with how well it's tuned. The veggie car that Jes built and I bought from him wasn't bad, especially on the interstate. It has a good bit of torque. That's a cool rig IMO, I'd go visit Ron if he moved down by the river in it.

Should have known better than to question a pro.

I'm coming to Madison to start building!! It sounds a lot like Oxford. A big builder Southaven area is selling houses here for 95pf but getting 150pf in Oxford. Same exact house. But I guess the houses are appraising for that much. That's the big issue because a bank will only loan you so much money. They don't care if you have kenmore appliances or a kitchen full of Viking appliances. Banks and appresials pretty much dictate how much you spend. Unless you have a bunch of cash and don't need a loan.
For 125-150pf you should be able to get everything you want. For perfection you might want allow for 8mos to a year to complete. And interest payments towards the end can get pricey.

Excellent; thanks Todd.
